Pleeease dont do this, if you sell and have £130,000 in savings you wont be entilted to income support etc so will not get any help towards your rent, so you will be wasting more money.
Have a look round the forums, there are lots of money savings tips - ive saved around £10 a week, which is quite alot when ur poor like me lol!

You would be selling your house only to use the money to pay rent. Not a very money saving idea.

We're hoping to do something similar, in that we will sell our house (hopefully) and move areas, using the equity to pay the debts/mortgage, and buy our new house outright.

What happens when the money runs out? It will happen quicker than you think.

I would have a look on the DFW boards, they saved me a fortune!

Hmm... For taxpayers maybe the best thing for her to do would be to sell...

    Hi Mrs_Shoppie,

I do not agree with the above quote.

You don't say how old your children are.

Anyway I would advise you to keep your house. As others have said you will end up paying out more than you are now and end up in a right pickle.

Think about it. You do not have rent or mortgage to pay now but if you sell, you will, all in addition to your current basic living expenses.

I admit it is not nice not having much money but a roof over your head is more important than holidays abroad or a nice car. As long as the car you have gets you from A to B who cares about what others are driving.

Some people work all the hours God sends and still do not have much cash at the end of each month. If you are worried about keeping the children happy during school holidays I'm sure there are lots of free activities in your local area. You can take them to the park and to museums, the library and any activities put on specifically for children during school hols. Believe me they are free and fun and as long as the children are happy they do not care that they did not go abroad. What they've never had they will not miss.

When you are able, you can get a job and maybe then they can have nice holidays. I grew up as the eldest of 5 children with my single mum (Dad passed away when we were still young) so I didn't go on holiday until I was 20 years old as that is when I could afford to pay for it myself. My siblings and I still have fond memories of our childhood and the adventures we had during school hols all at little or no cost to our poor mum.

Note for $$$: Tax credits and Child Benefit are every parent's entitlement regardless of whether they work or not. Every child born in this country is entitled to child benefit regardless of whether their parents are millionaires or not. So Mrs_Shoppie selling her house will have no impact on taxpayers!

yeah, depressing isn't it? Every drugged-up, chav princess is "entitled" to all sorts of money off the govt. hardly makes it worth while working. *Explodes in an orgasm of daily mail fervour*

ps. I'm not implying the OP is a drugged-up chav princess, merely have a rant about "entitlements".
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

think thats bad, the lib dems did some sums and recon 20% of the entire tax credits budget is either stolen or overpayed grr.

why does the government seem to think every randome scheme is a way for civil service job creation, how about making some real jobs.

Single mum, is the father of your children alive, and if he is, why is not paying maintenance to help you out?

You should take heart in what I'm about to say.....

I'm very much of the school of thought that house prices will come down soon. You may think that its a good thing to sell, because you could get lots of money and then buy something better when house prices are not so high.

BUT, in your position there is no way I would sell.
