Can this happen... Virgin Media

I had Virgin Media services, but cancelled on 16th March under their 28 day money back guarantee. All good - no charges - thanks very much.
I was told that I'd be issued with a final bill within 10 days. I thought this was fair enough, I had made additional phone calls etc.
So it gets to yesterday, and I still hadn't received the bill. I sent them an email as I was worried it was lost somewhere and I didn't want a non-payment to show up on my credit file.
The response I got amazed me. Fair enough, the offer I originally got said they'd give you £60 account credit, but I thought this was just imaginary money. But they're issuing me a cheque for £26, the amount my account was in credit. I've not received it yet, but it's in the post apparently.
So I got 28 days' free TV, internet, and phone services, made some calls, and get a cheque for £26?
+1 for Virgin Media, I say.

The question is why did you cancel?0

Remember that you've already paid a month in advance. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I cancelled as we moved house - had to relocate quickly for a new job. Luckily we got out of our rental agreement which we'd only had for a month, hence having only just gotten VM services.
macman - you made me think. I really don't think we paid any upfront costs, looking at the email there are none listed. I haven't had the chance to check my accounts yet, but from memory I don't think we paid anything.
Update - the cheque arrived this morning. My wife is having a guilt complex of 'should we cash it?' I say yes - you win some and you lose some.0 -
You may not have paid an install charge, but the monthly recurring charges are billed one month ahead. No free lunch, and no free laptop

If it turns out that you've really had a free month + £26 from VM do you think you could post up a piccy of yourself please as I'd like to have it on my wall.0

You're right, I was billed one month ahead. But my account was £60 in credit from day one, so the first month's payment (£27.99) came out of that credit. Hence the refund was only £26.41, when taking into account that I made some non-inclusive phonecalls.
Yes, it is very hard to believe, but it actually happened.
And you know what's the worst part? The £60 account credit deal was online, but there was also a £100 deal available in store (which I didn't know about before signing up). Could have been even more quids in!kwikbreaks wrote: »If it turns out that you've really had a free month + £26 from VM do you think you could post up a piccy of yourself please as I'd like to have it on my wall.
Do you want to use me for target practise - the one that got away haha?
If it's any consolation there have been plenty of other times where I have been the loser - hence only a minor feeling of conscience, which soon passed over.0 -
It wasn't you being a winner that appealed especially - it was VM losing out

You are under no obligation to point out VM's billing errors to them. Just bank it, I doubt that the beardy one will come chasing his £26 back.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I would cash it in a heartbeat. If it was the other way around you could be jumping through hoops to get any sort of refund.0
