Buying car tax but not displaying it

Thanks Closed and apologies for not being 'up to speed', I am surprised he offence 'failing to display' is still on the statute books in its old form however.

I applied online last week, and still have not received the new tax disc, so I have kept one copy of the confirmation on the dashboard and another copy in my wallet.
It does still make me wonder if you come across a "jobsworth", would they have sufficient knowledge to simply leave you alone.
