ESPN closing down from Sky TV on 31st July

Can I cancel my sky contract due to this?

I was previous with Virgin Media but moved to Sky recently. Literally the only thing need from digital tv is the ability to watch UFC events, if Sky cannot provide ESPN to me then I have no need for their services.

I am 6 weeks in to a 12 month contract, this news has only come to light today.

You can certainly cancel ESPN, but you can't cancel Sky which is a completely separate subscription.
No doubt you'll be able to subscribe to BT Sport once ESPN broadcasting rights expire.

Both the ESPN channel and the contents therein have been bought by BT. ESPN stops broadcasting on 31st July. BT ESPN starts broadcasting (on all platforms including Sky) on 1st August.

Though no announcements on pricing have been announced yet.
  • For those that want to cancel ESPN now (albeit with 31 days notice) instead of waiting until July 31st, you can downgrade here - https://remove.sky.com/espn
  • Sorry, but it's been common knowledge for several months that ESPN will be closing down this summer, following its failure last year to win any Premier League football matches from the coming season.

The only reason i have ESPN is because of the UFC shows. Apologies but what will be happening to the UFC as i know they have constantly failed to broker a deal with SKY which is a failed opportunity to break MMA to a wider audience.

Various outlets, including Mirror Sport have rumoured that UFC is going to BT Sport. However, to my knowledge, there has been no official announcement as yet.

BT Sport have confirmed a three-year broadcast deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)

Yes, but BT have the rights to 43 Premiership games to show live next season. At a guess, I would say they will broadcast it on their ESPN channel.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

  • I bet you they won't. Premiership football is the crown jewels for any sports channel, and they will broadcast it on BT Sport, not some outpost of ESPN.
