Temporary phone number
I want to put a small ad in the local paper but don't want people I know identifying me. Google brings up a number of companies offering a temp number which routes through to your phone - can anyone recommend one over another? (Or not as the case may be!)
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks, yes but wouldn't that mean I'd have to keep swapping it in and out of my phone so I could use the phone normally too? I used to have a phone that took 2 sims which would've been ideal.0 -
What kind of phone do you have? Smartphone? If so, get a free 'local' landlines number from sipgate, install a sip phone app, I use acrobits, and set it up with details from your sipgate account, and you will get calls routed to your phone for free, fir nothing more than a bit of data out of your bundle of you have one, or via wifi if you use it, a sipgate number also give you free voice mail that can be emailed to you, you can also make free 0800 calls via the number, so it's pretty handy0

You don't necessarily need an application in the phone to do this, with Sipgate or a number of other providers
Just logging into the account online from a PC and setting up call forwarding would be enough, at a charge for calls to your mobile or other landline, or free if forwarded to voicemail. Some voicemails can be listened to online.
Or else yes, with an installed application and SIP account running, on a phone or PC, you can accept incoming calls free.
Such use would mean charges for data use if applicable, like if the account was running on mobile data rather than wifi. VoIP applications will use in the range 150 kB to 1 MB per minute. So only do it like this if there's a decent sized data bundle included or reasonable priced data outside a bundle.0 -
You can buy very basic, refurb payg handsets for under £15. I've just googled and found them. The £15 included a £10 top-up. If you think you'll get use out of it in the future, it might be worth the outlay.
If you don't want to spend that sort of money, then ask friends & family if any of them have an old phone you can borrow and stick a payg sim in it?0 -
No need to buy another phone.Or pay out much. Get a Sipgate Geographical Number of your choice free. Set up free voicemail ( Voice to E-Mail) the e-mail message,s you get will include callers number etc if its presented. Best to do your own announcement which you can record via a geographical access number which would be included in your inclusive minutes if you have any.0
