We keep our house deeds/land registry paperwork in a Sentry MS3817 Fire-Safe, which is bolted to a concrete floor under the stairs. Although we don't keep cash in it.

We've become so used to using the debit card for almost everything.
Maybe we should consider keeping just a couple of thousand in there.

Plenty of room to store quite a bit of stuff.

I would imagine that unscrewing one of the electrical sockets from one of your walls, and placing the cash in the hole made there would be pretty safe. There's plenty of room in the ones in my house for this, even given the wires in there!

Hmmmmmm... Storing a combustible material (paper) next to a source of heat (electrical wire) Great idea - not! ;)

I think the best place is not actually in the house, but in the garden buried or something. Burglars tend to tear your house apart, so a lot of these hidden things are pretty useless.

Agreed. I believe burying in the garden is a long-time tried and tested method. If I recall correctly, Samuel Pepys wrote in his diary about burying gold when he & his family evacuated during the great fire of London. It was still safely there on his return.

Try a gun cabinet. We have one hidden in a cupboard, where we keep jewellery that is not often worn. Two keys, both different, one of which has to be inserted upside down. It is so frustrating trying to get it open, even we have been known to give up.
