How would you invest £150k?

Your great aunt Nelly has passed, or you've won on a scratchcard. You spend £10k paying off existing debt and on hols/clothes etc, and you now have £150k left.
Not enough to retire, and you don't want to go into property, so how would you invest the cash . . ?

I'm with Mat and really upset about Auntie Nelly too . What i would do has no idea for planning on what YOU would do. Clearing your debt is a feelgood factor and save you a monthly amount . Enjoy a nice holiday, dont blow it and dont tell anyone and everyone that you have it. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Yes, what I Would Do and what you would do are two VERY different things, as I already own several properties, have savings and investments, and pensions.
So, some would be to pay off mtg debt, and some into mroe pensions and some into more investments.
In your case, if it is your only 140K and you have no savings, no investments no pension and no property, I would suggest addressing those factors.
A bottle of champers drunk in Nelly's honor would of course be a nice touch.0 -

AS vague as it needs to be with your lack of clarification.
We for don't know if you are a taxpayer, and where you live and how much rent you pay, what your pension provision is and the like. So telling you to use your S&S isa allowance could be a start, but we don't know your level of investing experience or if you even are a taxpayer.
Choosing to pay rent over buying, isn't always a wise choice.0 -
Depends on one's goals, right?
Personally, right now, I would treat it as the a very healthy emergency fund and then take greater risks with my career.0 -
£75k balanced portfolio of trackers
60% world equities
40% bonds/gilts
£70k £7k x 10 high yield ftse100 shares (reinvest divis)
£5k cash isa
simple enough and boring

a Porsche 911 - probably just a regular C2, look for a lightly used one around the £50-60k mark.
the rest i guess i'd invest in a blend of equities & funds - and possibly some gold.0 -
My pension is sorted and I don't own my own home so I'd put it into property. And maybe go on holiday
What you would do is different though.0
