This so called Bedroom Tax

Unless you got on the property ladder some time ago for many they face the prospect of never owning their own home. This is coupled with the fact that we have one of the most unregulated rental markets in Europe so rents have gone up much faster than income destroying the standard of living of people who need to rent. Social housing which was sold was not replaced and rents are being increased to match the market level. Who benefits? Only those who already own their own homes and landlords who are the people raking in all the Housing Benefit that so many get irate about. Many of those forced to move by the bedroom tax will go into private rental accomodation and the rent may be more but everyone is happy as long as someone is suffering.
That doesn't make sense. If the rental is more why not stay put and pay the extra £14 a week.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I'm guessing there aren't many one bed places as most people on low income, who do not have a HA/Council place house share.
I bet there will be a few more of those about as people take in lodgers.
Many of my single colleagues house share. If you are a single person what else do you need? Need remember not want.
house sharing isnt really an option for disabled people though.... and they are the single most affected group ( apart from pensioners, who are exempt)0 -

that is the exact issue!
i have a 2 bed HA property .... rent is £105 a week.
a 1 ned private let ( there are only 2 in my area) are £25 amd £30 above the local LHA rate.
so the answer is to stay put and pay the £14 a week. but that leaves a lot of people in serious financial hardship, because there is no alternative0 -

sounds ideal!0 -

I know people with mental health issues and I know people in wheelchairs. I don't personally know anyone blind. I don't see why the three couldn't live together to be fair.
If you don't like the idea of sharing then £14 a week will have to be found or the £25/£30 a month extra you quoted earlier.
Tough financial and life decisions will have to be made.
Just like everyone has to I'm afraid.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Re sharing - What about people with kids ? Would you really want a complete sleeping in a room next next to your young DC's ?0

They don't all have to be disabled!
Why couldn't someone with a disability share with someone without? You'll be telling us disabled people can only have relationships with other disabled people next!0 -
as a blind person, i obviously have to be able to trust people that i share soace with. i am also very dependant on things being where i leave them.
i also need a space that is tidy,
and without obstacles.
if i had to share bathroom facilities with someone else, i would struggle to know that things were clean.
i am a 50 year old woman, amd 'roughing it' really isnt an option0
