Not sure if this is of any help,

My DS is 1 1/2 and has only just started sleeping through the night in the last week or so. Yes, he's always had a routine and yes he's fed plenty etc etc. But I have let him find his own routine. and eventually he's settled down. He's in bed by 7.15 every night after a relaxing bath and usually wakes around 7 - 7.30 in the morning.

One thing I loved whilst he was a small baby & I was breastfeeding (I had a section too) was my co-sleeper cot. it's made by Arm's Reach, an american company and basically the cot is on a level with the bed so that when baby needs you it's easy to reach over and they feel close to you without the risks of actually having the baby in your bed.

My little one is 6 months and isn't sleeping through yet. Sometimes she will wake during the night and a quick turn over (she can roll and always sleeps on her tummy....her doing), or hand and shhhh will settle her.

However, if it doesn't work then we give her a bottle and she'll fall asleep once its out of her mouth. She just seems to need a top up and once her belly in full she'll drift back off again.

Last night however she insisted on a feed at 1.30am and then again at 6am. Grrrr.

Would love her to sleep through, but just can't see how she's going to do it at the moment.

Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.
Love to my two angels that I will never forget.

If only! Our 9mth boy is waking regularly during the night: bed @ 7.30 and waking every 2 - 3hrs until 7am ish. He hasn't broken a tooth yet. The health visitor has suggested 'rapid return' and despite being a little confused with the detail of the method we're starting tonight

This might be a long night...

they say it takes only 3 days to create a habbit but up to 10 to break it. if thats the case it may be a rough 10 nights but you can rest assured he will get the hint by the end of it.

my little girl is 5 months and currently sleeps from 8/9pmish to 4ish for a feed and then up for the day. To put her to sleep i let her lay on our bed with a pillow either side as she like to stretch out a bit. i then go in an hour or so later to move her into her cot.

Does your little boy take a dummy? It may help settle him back to sleep if he is just looking a comfort suck rather than food.

    Good luck x

*edit to say up for the day after her next feed at 7 lol not at 4am! cor blimey that would kill me!

tizzy2 he did have a dummy when he was 5months old but got ill and would not take it anymore have tryed since but he won't have it. thanks

After 4 years of sleepless nights we finally sorted out our son's sleep problems after consulting "Teach your child to sleep" by Millpond Children's Sleep Clinic ISBN 0-600-61345-3.

Although our son is 4, the book deals with the sleeping habits/problems of babies too. After trying lots of things I came across the book by chance on Amazon and it has transformed the lives of the whole family as we all asleep now!

I can't recommend it highly enough - please PM if you want more information.

I have 2 sons - 2yr old & 5 month old, both born by C-section. DS1 still does not sleep through, but DS2 has slept through from 5 weeks old!! In fact, the first night DS2 slept through, I was too scared to check him as I feared the worst - DS1 would wake 10-14 times a night at 5 wks - so different! We too got the sleep book (we did have to order it from USA, but Waterstones got it in about 10 days); It is a brilliant book, but not read it all, so tried some points it raised & DS1 is sleeping better.

Essentially though, we do not worry too much & if DS1 wakes (now maybe only once or twice a night) & if his dummy or "ted-ted" don't settle him he can get into bed with us, although this is happening less. We feel that we maybe shouldn't have DS1 in our bed (as others say) but we feel that he still a baby to an extent & if he wants cuddles, then who can refuse??

As I've said though, he does seem to be sleeping better as he gets older, & DS2 goes into his cot around 10pm & is up around 8pm & they've both always been treated the same with the same routine & sleep totally differently!

Sorry, appears I've rambled on. Just wanted to offer support & to let you know I understand how tough it is & just do what works for you & don't feel like you're doing something wrong when you hear other mums say "my baby sleeps right through the night" - that statement nearly destroyed me as DS1 is a bad sleeper I was convinced it was my fault - you seem to be heading in the right direction - good luck!:D
Where I was born was so small, we didn't even have a village idiot - we just took turns!
