    It may well work if there's a good relationship with the existing bank, everything on time, little/no debt etc.

    I managed to wangle an 80% increase in a limit (we're talking to high 5-figure sums here) by posting relevant proof of funds to clear the balance.

  • is there anything i can do to improve my credit report
    i thought getting a credit card would do that
    i never defaulted on any payment thats why i was shocked

    Did you read MSE article that I posted a link to? It doesn't matter that you never defaulted if the accounts are not reported to CRAs.

    If it was your bank that refused you, try one of Bad-credit Credit Cards
    Also, a store card, a mobile contract, possibly sim-only.
