I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is likely that it could take at least twelve months before any kind of claim for compensation is settled.
My DH had a serious accident last June alighting from a city tram. the company accepted liability almost immediately and yet almost eleven months later my DH's claim is not yet settled.
My husband was also self-employed but lost several big contracts due to the fact he was on two crutches and could neither drive or travel to clients on public transport in the end we had to go on JSA until we could re-start the business in March this year.
What made it easier was using the Step change charity to help us organise our creditors before we got in to any arrears...and we didn't lose our home.
Get a good solicitor for your compensation ,check in with them weekly for a case update...we reckon we are six weeks from settlement.
Take photos of your husband's injuries as they heal we found them useful.
Don't panic...stay calm...don't be afraid to ask for help from charities like step change.
I do hope your husband is back to work very soon.0 -
Might be worth turning detective yourself, See what cctv was near the crossing at the time and contact them to see if they have the recordings you just never know. That way they may be able to prove they was driving Worth a shot.0

Have you got any cover on your house insuranc that would cover your solicitor costs?Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0

Police say they have checked CCTV and there are no clear pictures of the driver??
Maybe I could check cameras further away from the accident? ie from his home to the scene.
Woulod I be allowed to look at the footage myself?0 -

How awful for you I hope you get paid out very soon.
We are going to contact our mortgage company today and see what they come up with.
Because of the recession in the building trade we let his accident insurance lapse last year when we did our "cut backs" Could kick ourselves now!0 -
So the person who hired the vehicle returned home on either the 4th or 5th January, but didn't bother reporting the car as stolen to the hire company until the 9th?? Is the driver the police say is well known to them the same person who hired the vehicle?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I suspect the person who hired the vehicle, who the OP says is a drug dealer, is well known to the police and odds are they are probably after him for bigger matters than a hit & run. That is why the police have not gone further with a prosecution here.
Check your home legal cover, but there is probably a clause that excludes pursuing claims againt untraced third party drivers. If there isn't then you may well be on the road to having a solicitor deal without taking a cut of the winnings, but you will have to start over from scratch with a new solicitor firm as they won't agree to cover the costs of a solicitor who is not on their panel.0 -
