Cancelling Virgin - what happens?

So I'm thinking about cancelling my virgin TV.
I have basic TV and Sky Sports plus ESPN.

If I cancel it all can I leave my virgin box hooked up to my TV and still receive all the free to view channels through it thus making it a freeview box or do I have to disconnect it completely and get a new freeview box to connect to my TV?

Thanks.

  • You do not own a Virgin Media box - you merely rent it from VM. On cancellation the box will cease to function and VM should arrange collection of the box from you - read your terms and conditions you agreed to. You will need to purchase a new stb.
  • Thanks Dave I wasn't aware of that.
What about the box outside and the white wire that runs through the house? Do the disconnect it all and take it all away?
Sorry for my ignorance but I've never cancelled before.
  • Don't forget you need an existing or a new TV aerial to connect to your new Freeview box.

You cannot connect a Freeview box to the Virgin cable.

Rented a flat once that had cable from a previous tenant - it was all left in-situ. But it won't be much good to you. It takes time, and hence money, for a Virgin engineer to remove cabling so now you are cancelling they'll probably leave the redundant cable for you to rip out.
  • Cheers guys.

What if I just cancel sports? I only watch football so cancelling for the summer and resubscribed next season would be allowed right?

Yeah you can downgrade and upgrade freely.

All they want returning is the digibox, not the other installed wiring and equipment.
If you want Freview then you need an aerial, as the feed to your cable will be disconnected at the local street cab.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
