admiral cancelled car insurance

newbie here so hope im giving enough info for people to help! If not then ask questions
I had insurance through admiral.
Was short of money in bank for DD and payment was rejected.
Once i got the letter telling us it had been rejected i rang up and offered to pay there and then over the phone (had enough money in bank by this time). Woman wouldn't let me pay then over phone because they would request payment a second time.
i was adamant i wanted to pay over the phone because i couldn't guarantee money would be there in a few days.
(main and important DD's come out first then a few days later remaining bills come out)
A few days later we were short by about £10 and missed the cut off point to put the money into the account for it to go through ok.
We contacted Admiral and were told insurance cancelled. We offered to pay the payment there and then but they wouldn't accept it.
Iv complained no end and spoke to supervisor but getting absolutely no where.
Now trying to get insurance is crazy. well, i can get insurance but once i select the option that i have had insurance cancelled i only get quotes from 5 companies and the prices jump from £600ish a year to well over a grand.
I realise that the first missed payment was our fault but we tried to resolve the problem as soon as we noticed.
Admiral wont help but i cant afford the new insurance quotes but i need the car for work and taxi-ing my 3 children around.
any help would be gratefully received.

Just phone companies or brokers for quotes. Explain about the cancellation being due to a hiccup with the direct debits payments. Should not be an issue for them. It is only cancellations that involve non disclosure, fraud, too many claims, other risk issues, that Insurers will have a problem with. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

Not good is it really. I know it's awful to have to go through all of this, but I think you need to resolve the issues before it happens again. Really if you knew the money was to be taken again, you could have just worked out how much everything would cost and confirmed enough money would be in your account, if you couldn't put any money in, it would only have been a matter of cancelling a direct debit that was not priority (like you said above)
Not an easy situation and that Company are not helpful to be honest - I know that much.0 -
Issues have all been resolved now due to extra money going into the account due to pay rises so there will always be a few hundred pound too much in that account.0
