25hr delay - package company or airline to claim

Options
Hi everyone, this is my first time on the forum so apologies if I've got it wrong but I would like some advice on a 25 hour flight delay we encountered at Christmas 2012.
Booked a ski holiday with Inghams to Austria and flew from Birmingham to Innsbruck with Austrian airlines. Due to bad weather the flight was delayed, on arrival at 3.00pm we were told the plane was on the run way at Innsbruck but it may not take off because it couldn't get back to Innsbruck before it closed for the night. We were then told the flight wouldn't take off and we would know more the following day and put up in hotel overnight.
Following morning we were told that the airline needed to get a new crew so we wouldn't fly until later. We were given various different reports as to why we were delayed, including, crew and our plane was elsewhere.
Anyway finally took off 25 hours late. I understand the rule on extra-ordinary circumstances and bad weather comes under this but surely due to the fact that other flights actually landed on the original date of our flight and the following morning Innsbruck was open and had no issues, do you think I have a valid claim and if so would I write to Austrian Airlines or Inghams? Any help and advice welcome please. Thanks

Your claim is with the operating airline, not the travel agent. Not sure I fully understand what happened, but I think you might have a fight on your hands on this: the weather is the root cause of the delay, albeit the delay was made worse by an operational decision. Confident about taking it to Court?
