Hello all,
First time posting on here and I could really do with some help.
2 weeks ago I applied for and got a Barclaycard as it was offering a cracking balance transfer deal. Everything was going smoothly with no issues at all until I logged on to view my statement. I received my card approx a week ago but not yet received the pin yet but somehow a £500 ATM withdrawal has been made on my credit card. I could understand it if someone had stolen my card but the card has been locked away in my filing cabinet still attached to the letter it came with. I decided to put it in there as I have no intention of using the card for purchases just for the balance transfer. I just don't know how they could've got hold of my details of the card has not moved since I got it. I've let Barclays know and they are sending me a claim form but I'm very worried that
a) My claim will be rejected and;
b) How they got my details
Any help that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated as I'm very worried right now

As long as you still have the card in your possession and haven't shared your card details with a third party, you won't be held liable for the fraudulent transaction and will get all the money reimbursed, so you can stop worrying.
It's happened twice to me and had it all back within a few days on both occasions...
Who knows how they get details, last one for me was because cap one got hacked, tried to charge 5k worth of gold to my 200 quid limit card.0 -
If you have not yet received the PIN, you have nothing about which to worry at all.0

Expect problems with your use of at least that card in the future.
When fraud was perpetrated on my card, months later it refused to let me buy a modest tain ticket from a machine. As it was late at night I was stranded.
You can never prove it was not you (or a friend of yours) that did not steal the money.
Good luck, document all you interaction with the card company and let us know how you get on.0 -

...and whatever the T+Cs/Lending Code says about imposing liability for gross negligence, liability is limited by the CCA1974 to £50 (http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/ombudsman-news/46/46_plastic_cards.htm).
CCs like to regard use of PIN as tantamount to proof of use of the card by the cardholder. That's why stuff like where the card was used can be helpful.0 -

You say they have sent you a claim form but you haven't said what else they said that has made you very worried.
b) Who knows? If you've not got your PIN yet, they may have intercepted your post somewhere containing this. But how they got details of your card is anyone's guess.0 -
The card and PIN have to be used for an ATM withdrawal. Is there anyone in your house who could have opened the PIN advice and used the card and replaced it without you being aware ? As opinions4u has asked already, where was the ATM which was used ?
Everyone is stating that you will be refunded, Barclays will investigate, but if the card and the PIN were used, and the ATM is one local to you, this may not be the case.0 -

Er... the fact of what has happened? Worry that s/he won't be believed? That there will now be a lot of hassle? That the outcome is uncertain? That the OP is not entirely sure of laws/regulations/rights/custom & practice?

The OP is looking for similar experiences/expert knowledge as to what might have happened. Clearly nobody knows for sure. In my case FWIW it was insider fraud based on what a senior supervisor told me and some press coverage. (Can't be certain though.)0
