When I was unemployed my only reason for going near a job centre was to sign on and go through the motions with the staff. I kept a log of all my job searches - including employment agencies, job websites, employer approaches, website searches etc etc, job applications, interviews, dates and outcomes etc - in fact any activity or contact. I even devised a colour coded chart! There was nothing the staff could advise that I wasn't already doing nor were they interested in discussing any of it with me when I waved my paperwork at them. I came to the conclusion - at that office anyway - that their main function was to check you were looking for work and to give some people a nudge.p.s re Jobcentre, didn't go near one. Waste of time IMO.
Took a few weeks out to do my own stuff. After Easter I phoned/emailed everyone I could think of, a week or so later get a text with a phone number, phoned the guy on the Tuesday afternoon, started work the next morning.0 -
