Can I hijack this a bit....My yahoo email account was hacked yesterday, I received an email which I opened (from a contact I knew), but did not click on any links, the day after all my contacts were receiving spam from me. I changed my password & questions successfully quite quickly but feel uneasy about the whole thing (especially all my on line banking) and wish to get a new email address. However I have hundreds of important emails I wish to keep as I am going through an employment issue...if I forward these to a new email address will that infect anything? it sounds dumb but I am so nervous about this now, appreciate any advice0

Have you thought about printing them out?
It might confuse things if you forward them to another email address (but that would not infect anything - it's the phishing links in the spam emails which need to be avoided).0 -
Kuzu, if you're worried about it doing something weird again, don't forward the email that caused it.
If you didn't click on any links but did click on the email itself to read it, I would be cautious about sending it to another address in case there's some script embedded in the email or something.
I don't know if that's even possible (not an expert), but if you say you didn't click on any links, I would assume that something has executed by virtue of the email being opened, and say it's probably better not to chance it.
I'm happy to be corrected. Like I said, I'm not an expert.

Instead of forwarding the emails, how about doing a 'Save As' on the ones you want to keep and save them as *.eml files to a USB memory stick. Then run a virus scanner on the stick. You can use the stick whenever you want to open and view a saved email.... My yahoo mail was hacked a year or so ago. I wasn't locked out but all my contacts got spam. One of them clicked on it and her computer had problems. I knew straightaway as I got a returned undeliverable mail (I keep a nonsense mail address in my contacts for just this purpose). I know it's a pain but we could really stop this garbage spreading by not using the contacts list and that's what I've done since.
You can check if someone has accessed or tried to access your mail. I discovered that mine had been hacked via Yahoo Messenger. Don't ask me how - I don't even use Messenger!
Also apparently it can happen at Yahoo server level.0 -
Add me to the list.
I only have a Yahoo address from when I signed up to FreeCycle. It was used to send once, in October 2007, just to check it worked.
Today the Yahoo account was logged into from the Ukraine, and used to send an email to the original test address, a Fast4.net address, remember them?
It obviously bounced.
I logged into my account through Yahoo and have changed the password and secret questions.
Just to add, the original password was unique to that account and consisted of upper and lower case letters and symbols. :cool:Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Cheers matey,
At least I could still access my account to change the password etc. Yahoo alerted me about a login from an unrecognised device.
I've not yet properly examined the Mailer-Daemon failure notice, but I did spot a link in it which when I Googled the domain name, seem to be some sort of wondrous slimming aid!
p.s re Jobcentre, didn't go near one. Waste of time IMO.
Took a few weeks out to do my own stuff. After Easter I phoned/emailed everyone I could think of, a week or so later get a text with a phone number, phoned the guy on the Tuesday afternoon, started work the next morning.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
