Sainsburys - Praise.

Whilst finishing my shopping in Sainsburys I headed to the nearest check out. The young lassie was opening bags for me to put shopping in. She asked if I needed any help? No, I replied. But she still helped me nevertheless. She was so helpful, looked fresh and clean, didnt go over board with her service, but she was chatty and friendly.

After thanking her I went off to the desk and asked to speak to a manager. The lady froze with impending doom but I said it was all good. A young manager came up and straight away I told him that this young lassie had made my shopping trip so much more pleasurable and that they were very lucky to have her on their staff. I gave him her name and he promised he would tell her. I also said that if there were more cashiers like this lady then shopping would not be such a chore.

So, Katrina Lee Sainsburys, Carlisle - take a bow. Keep up the good work. You were brilliant!!

I would imagine she looked a bit worried when you headed towards the manager as he had not obeyed your instruction - she asked if you needed help you said no but she went ahead and helped anyway!

I always say no when asked if I need help with my shopping, I like to pack it myself as I pack with different bags open and place items in according to where they belong at home - makes putting it away much quicker and easier.

If i said no to this and they proceeded to do it anyway I would not be too pleased - I certainly would not complain as I would appreciate that the assistant was only trying to help but still sometimes when people say no they do mean it! Likewise if the guides/scouts are helping packing at the supermarket to raise money I always let them help and put some money in the pot.

I didnt tell her I was going to tell the manager. I just felt it was the right thing to do. To get a recognition for her excellent service. I cant really get what you are saying other than you like to do your own packing. Fair enough. But that was not the point I was making....

Oh sorry I've just re-read your post when you say "The lady froze with impending doom but I said it was all good" I assumed you were talking about the checkout assistant, but I now see you were referring to the lady at the customer service desk. Sorry my mistake

I'm glad you had a good experience however the checkout assistant in question did pack your items when you had said no to the request, "She asked if I needed any help? No, I replied. But she still helped me nevertheless" others might have viewed it differently.

She will probably get a £10 voucher unless they have stopped that scheme now.

Nice to hear you had a good experience.

I was pretty hacked off in Sainsbury's today though. I really wish they would give their check out staff either damp j cloths (as they do in Tesco and Asda) or small wet sponges at their till (like they do in Waitrose) to prevent the check out staff from licking their fingers to open carrier bags. It is revolting and I hate it when they open a carrier bag this way as "Joan" did today (even after I asked her politely not to).

Absolutely no need for it. It's disgusting.

If they supply them in your Tesco then thats great, but not the norm. Checkout staff if they want them usually supply their own x

We shop at the Carlisle branch as well, and have always found them to be extremely helpful, chatty and lovely too!

Nice of you to go up to customer service and praise the young lady, retail staff don't get praised nearly often enough if they're good in their job. :T

I make my own bag opening wotsit - a coffee jar lid with a jcloth folded inside which I top up with water before each shift.
Easy to just wipe finger before opening bags, you would not believe how dirty the cloth gets!
