PC won't switch on after a full scan

So I've deleted the 4 pups. I've run the registry clean up as you suggested.also after deleted 4 of them goto ccleaner there is registry tab click on that then at bottom scan for issues button then afterwards fix selected issues will help tidy registry up as well this will slow machine down if registry is all over the place.
Then I shut down to give it an opportunity to have a rest lol. When I switched it back on I ran a Microsoft Essentials Quick Scan which ran ok and said no issues found. BUT on the same screen it immediately said (in the orange alert colour it uses) your PC is potentially unprotected as you haven't run a scan for some time, run a scan now. So I ran the scan and it just keeps saying unprotected. It makes me think something I've done in the registry clean up has caused this. Any suggestions on how to fix this ? Is it just uninstall Microsoft essentials and then reinstall? TIA0 -
Came back from a trip out and have switched it and again it says it needs a scan.0

Thanks for this.
I followed the link and did method 1
I tried to do method 2 as method 1 made no difference but I don't have any other anti virus software to uninstall anyway.
The cleaner is the most up to date settings.
It hasn't fixed the problem but there's no info on there about what to do if neither method fixes the problem.
Any suggestions on how else to fix it? TIA.0 -

Do I uninstall it first and then follow your link and reinstall it?0 -
Download mseinstall.exe and save it somewhere you can easily find it, then uninstall/reinstall0

ccleaner used to force mse to rescan, don't know if this "feature" is fixed, doesn't affect avast free

you shouldn't need to scan anyway, unless you suspect something is wrong, resident av scans on access.!!
