Is there a name for ...

Options
That period of time between an interview and hearing about whether or not you got the job? It feels to me like it should have a name, but I can't pin it down.
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

What should we call the period between interview and a job offer/refusal 10 votes

Nope. It is a horrible time though - I can't decide if it is worse to find out quickly that you've been unsuccessful (quickest for me was 2 hours by e-mail) or if you have to wait a while.

I went for an interview about three weeks ago and was told that I had done a good interview and they would be in touch.

Still no answer from them, although I have walked by the shop and the person interviewed before me was in there beoing trained up so I don't think they'll bother.

Some companies really do take the !!!!, I can understand that they can't reply to every application but when there are only 12 people being interviewed then it can't take that much effort to even send out a generic email.
Bedroom Tax / Spare room subsidy / Housing Benefit Reduction - It's the same thing, get over it.

Totally agree it should be called limbo.

Really hope that you get the job by the way. Don't forget that while some small business's can be very quick in responding other larger companies can take what seems to be an age.

One bit of paper goes to one department then another then HR etc.

No news really can be good news. But TBH I would call them!

I had an interview in June, I was specifically asked to apply for the post, so I went along and to be honest it was not by best interview so knew pretty much straight away I would not get it, I heard via a colleague that a previous employee got the job, to this date I still have not been told I was unsuccessful.

I was tempted to email and ask if I was getting the job as I had heard nothing, and then drop in to conversation that ???? had heard glowing reports of his new position, but thought better of it. You never know when you might want to interview there again.

The successful candidate has since moved onto a new job so they are looking again.

    hmmmm

Post interview limbo ... sounds about right.

I know I'll get an answer one way or the other because they're using an online application management system and there'll be an automatic confirm/deny generated to all the applicants when they do allocate the position. I just don't know when.

Try having interview, 4 weeks for outcome, "congratulations on a succesful interview, we will contact you by the end of the week"

6 Weeks later with numerous attempts to contact them only to final get a call back saying 'Sorry, you passed the interview but didn't get the job as a better candidate got it, you will be put in a pool for future vacancies'

This was one of the large banks.
  • Yeah know how you all feel, I always think if the employer doesn't come back to you pretty soon after applying, interview etc, it doesn't look good - I mean is this also how they treat their customers? ...shudder...

Can't believe it the full time job I went for Tuesday, have just re-advertised for a part-time position so that will probably be a no then! I've written my own unsuccessful letters before now to! got friends to call up pretending to apply only to find out for me the position is filled - it's bad

Is it me or do a lot of employers deliver bad news by phone nowadays that always gets me - whereas it used to be a phonecall only if it was looking hot!

    Oh well whinge over!
