Should the buyer be present for the survey?

    I can't see why you are not allowed to be present you are paying for it, even if you don't speak to him you are there to check that he does the job properly (not saying he won't but it would put your mind at rest)

    Primary purpose is to value the property for the lender at the borrowers expense. The surveyor is employed by the lender not the borrower. For an additional fee the surveyor will compile a more detailed report on the property for the borrowers use.

    They've stated they don't want you present at the inspection which is for valid reasons. Whilst you may say you won't interfere, they won't believe you, as the majority who do want to attend do exactly that.

    This is what I've done - I was just looking for a second opinion as others have advised that it would be important to be present, that's all.

    Obviously that's a risk with any survey. If that's the case then I could get a further survey done - would cross that bridge if I came to it. It's highly unlikely though - my questions are standard stuff that should be covered by a homebuyer's report.

    A basic valuation is carried out entirely for the lender and not for me, yes, but I am having a homebuyer's report (see above) - therefore I am paying the additional fee you refer to.
