What counts as Photo ID for a bank?

Options
I have a passport which I keep safely at home, I don't have a photo driving licence on principle, so what other document is there that I could carry around in my purse to use when photo ID is required by the bank say? I have seen a Citizen's card that seems to be aimed at students for proof of age would that work? Anything else I am not aware of?

I have had a citizen card for quite a while and its usually accepted as photo identity anywhere I've used it so far.

I don't find I need ID for banks on a regular basis.

When it has been needed it has been when opening or closing an account and I know I'm going to do that in advance, not on the spur of the moment as I walk down the high street with nothing better to do.

So I take my passport for an outing when it may be required.

This question was spawned by my need to get some cash out of a bank when the ATM system had a blip...if I was opening an account I would use my passport but most people seem to have a photo driving licence and I was looking for something else as I said I don't have one.

I travel a lot for work (UK) so having a card in my bag would save me having the problem I nearly had yesterday if I was away from home and needed cash.

I will look into the citizen's card;)

You can only use a passport if its in date. I have the same trouble as I do not drive.

I do have a current passport so I would be OK just don't like carrying it around as it would be a pain to replace if I lost it or it got stolen..

I was thinking there must be something else as not everyone holds a passport or drives and I am sure I am not the only one with my paper licence still..........

How often would all ATMs be out of operation? At precisely the time when you need to draw cash?

    Don't you carry credit cards?

Out of interest, what is the principle? Fair enough you passed your driving test when it was just a paper license, so have one instead of a photo license.

I lost my paper license and got the card as a replacement, it goes everywhere with me and is accepted by everyone as ID - banks, car hire, etc, both home and abroad.

Well one principle would be not being forced to pay to update your photo every 10 years

Which costs a tiny amount. £20. £2 a year. What a pointless principle to have in exchange for not having a useful and handy ID document to hand should you need one.

Cutting off nose to spite face comes to mind.

My hairdresser has moved salons and she hasn't got a credit card machine in the new place yet, I forgot about this.I don't carry much cash and I was in a smallish town with 3 ATM s 2 of them were offline with a system fault precisely when I needed more cash. Hairdresser would have waited for payment I know her well but I don't like owing money hence the hunt for a working cash machine.

I do object to having to pay for one in the first place and then having to pay to update it every 10 years, I know it's irrational but it makes sense to me, my paper licence should do me till I get to 70;)
