Hi
A colleague of mine who has been with Sky for years and years and pays full price for his tv package (sports, movies, multiroom, hd, broadband, the lot) rang them yesterday to cancel it all and give 31 days notice.
First call, the lady he spoke to told him they could offer him this that and the other to stay which he rejected, insisting he just wanted to cancel, after 30 minutes of rejecting her offers she asked him to call back as her computer has frozen so she couldnt go ahead and cancel it that moment and she'll make some notes on his account that he wants to cancel and she'll make sure it will go through to which he replied if your screen has frozen how can you make notes on the system to cancel???
So he called back 5 minutes later and spoke to someone else, had the same conversation that he wanted to completely cancel his package, he wasn't after a deal or anything, just wanted to cancel. The guy he spoke to for 45 minutes offered him no end of deals which my friend rejected, then the guy for Sky (obviously desperate for his commission) asked my friend what would he like from Sky to stay? Nothing, I just want to cancel! The Sky guy was getting very irritated now and told my colleague that he was putting a ban on his phone line for 6-8 weeks so he couldn't join another broadband company and he also refused to give him his MAC code for transferring his broadband over!!
Correct me if I'm wrong but surely this is illegal??

They are allowed 5 working days to supply a MAC.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

get onto ofcom.. they cant stop a transfer of services unless you owe them money..Sealed pot challenger # 10

If sky cancel your broadband it ceases for 31 days before anyone can take over, if planning to switch provider your new provider needs to take over the line.
& If computer systems for sky crash you can still make notes, there is also no commission
Not illegal probably just over reacted to by your friend, line cease is standard as new providers take over however it's 31 days, as for cancelling, everyone's entitled too, if dealt with rudely that's a separate issue..0 -

Ofcom stated when introducing "General Condition 22: Service Migrations":1.14 ...They will not be able to withhold MACs where the customer owes them money (“debt blocking”) .....0 -

That's not true at all. There are occasionally tags on the line issue, but there's no hard and set number of days!0 -

I presume this is correct for any company, we at sky cannot ever deny someone the right to move elsewhere whether they owe money or not. Have to supply a mac at any point even within contract.0
