Not enough information here to answer your questions really
Internet: It may be the kind of place where the only internet connection is available via the landlord, however if you can get your own phone line installed then you can use any internet provider. There's a list of the cheapest ones on this site.
TV licence: You're not going to get that at a discount.0 -
re internet - many providers will look for 18/24 month contracts, so if your let is likely to be less than that - the landlord offer, whilst maybe at a higher premium doesnt have the longer term implication.
TV License. Monthly Budget plan is usually the best option. For this you will pay for the 1st year over 6 months, and then start paying for the next year in advance \ behind for 6months ad-inifintum..
e.g. Month 1-6 = 1/6th of the Annual fee, Month 7 onwards 1/12th of the annual fee..
other posts regarding viewing habits that may not require a license..0 -
£19 for internet seems about right if it is only used by you. The phone line rental would cost you £14 already. Also, those package usually tie with 12 months contract.
What mobile contract are you with? If you are on three, you can consider upgrade to the one plan, and that allow unlimited data tentering.
There no cheaper way to get a TV licence. The only thing you can do is not watching live TV. Watch DVD and catch up only.0 -
i am with o2 at present.. ok so could go with the 19 pound internet
so if i pay it monthly i have some time where its paid and dont need to worry? most tvs come with freeview now?

If you're talking about the TV license, paying monthly just spreads the full license cost over the year and you must pay the first month before the license is issued. Freeview doesn't mean that you don't need a license.0

All TV's come with Freeview-analogue TV is no more.
£19 is very expensive if you are going to be sharing it with other people-what is the set up? You can get broadband for £6.50 per month, but to do that you'll need a landline installing and have to pay line rental. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
yeah i want it to be spread and i pay as i go along.. yep i know i need a licence with freeview. .want to not spend too much on a tv.. anywhere that would deliver and set it up for me? the internet will just be for me and i don't need a landline so guess that is a good option

If there is a good 3G reception at the property, then you might want to consider something like this, and then you will have access wherever you are: http://92.238.96.40/vm/mobileBroadband.do
Just keep an eye on your usage, as you can easily use up your allowance if you download music and films.
As you are with O2, if you have a data allowance, then you can use tethering to connect your phone as a modem. But again, keep an eye on your usage.
If your contract is soon to run out with O2, then Tesco Mobile are far cheaper. And they now have tethering with Android phones, and will have with iphones within a few months.0 -
i'd rather not do it over a phone.. want that to be separate.guess one from landlord seems best

Only problem with buying a tv with a built dvd player is if the dvd player packs in and you send it off to be repaired and you left with no tv. Just saying.0
