mid range phone recommendations?
Thanks to the board guide for merging my last thread into the Orange retention thread - its a question about new phones rather an a Orange contract/retention question hence why I posted it as a new thread. I've removed all the contract details from the post so its basically just a question about phones - please dont merge it again!
Hi folks
I'm at upgrade time and I've not been offered a great deal from Orange in comparison with previously so am seriously considering leaving. This is what I've been offered Free Xperia J, Desire C or £20 for S3 Mini
I would like a better phone to replace my LG P500 - something closer to 4" than 5" (OH has an S3 which I think is too big). I have considered a Nexus and going sim only but this would be a fair bit more expensive overall if I dont change my usage. Obviously its a much higher spec phone in comparison with the others though. I would prefer Android as thats what I'm used to but could probably be persuaded to try Windows.
What else should I be looking at - either phones+ sim only or contract recommendations?
Thanks!

It would probably be helpful if you gave an idea of your monthly/one-off budget, and an idea of the number of minutes / text / data you need?0
-
Thanks - I did that in the original post but then it got merged into the Orange retentions thread.
Price I wouldn't want to spend more than about £15/month for a mid range phone but admit I'm slightly out of touch with things. OH got an S3 for £22 per month with a good bundle back in July last year (£26 before cashback) so I'm using this as a benchmark as it was a top end phone at the time. If I was going to buy a phone outright I dont think there is any viable competitor to the Nexus 4 at the moment.
Contract requirements are a minimum of:
300 mins, 200 texts and 500Mb data.0 -
Galaxy mini
mobiles.co.uk
£17 O2 300 min, unlimited txt, 500MB
£12.75 after cash back0 -
Thanks for the recommendation - I have been offered
18 month contract
200 mins
300 texts
500Mb
unlimited landlines
S3 Mini - £19 fr handset
£13.98/month
Which is a little more expensive (~£15/month in total) but a better fit and I dont have to worry about cashback. Also its only an 18 month contract.0 -

So it's £14pm + £19 upfront for the s3 mini?
Go for it. You're not going to find a better deal for the phone (unless it's a cashback deal) and if you can stay with orange (if you're happy with service) then even better.0 -
Well I've just been onto Orange to see what other phones they could offer and the person I spoke to said that they couldn't do the S3 Mini at that price and that there was no notes on the system.
They also said I could keep the contract but the price would be £11.98/month. I'm waiting on a call back to see what they can do on the phone.
Interesting they said I could get £10 off per month and if thats the case and it applies to all contracts then I'm going to look at the Works 26 as its got much better phones on and would be £16 after the discount. Will see what happens and update the thread if I get the call back,0 -
I will be in the same boat as you in another month or so and also have the LG P500 so will be looking something with a bigger screen so have been looking at the Nokia520 running on Windows 8 which I think will make a nice change, best deals on this are with Talkmobile.0

Its been a very long 10 minutes - now about 4.5 hours. Going to phone them up and see whats happening.
I'm quite tempted by one of the Nokias but would probably stick to what I'm used to - bit of a creature of habit

A family member has a Windows phone and has been very pleased with it.
Compared with the Android and iPhone platforms there are less apps but it has met all requirements.
If it is available within your budget the Nokia 820 is a nice phone.0 -
My DD has a Motorola Razri

which is £15pm from Tesco mobile, but only 100 minutes which is probably not enough for you. We haven't got much else to compare it with, but it is a nice size to use.0
