Autarky - anyone feeding their dog on this?

Options
Zara has been on Autarky for a while now and all good.

Just realised they do "senior light" version too so wondering...

She will be 7 yo at the end of August BUT she needs to lose a bit of weight so...

Can anyone advice?

Shall I get the light one:

We used to feen our boy (labrador) on Autarky, thinking it was really good because of all the herbs etc in it, but unfortunately it gave him seriously excessive wind!!!!!!!!. TBH, I think it was possibly the hight maize content, whic is not good for dogs with sensitive stomachs, so I don't think I could reccommend it. Sorry.

My vet nurse just advises to feed less of the normal food, not to bother with the senior foods. How do you think it compares to Orijen?
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!

Olias - if you read my post - Zara is already on this brand and fine , I am just asking about switching to senior.

MrsAtobe - Zara was on Orijen for ages and was good on it, then we went to Skinners and she was fine too, she is fine on this one now (quite a few months) but just wondering about the senior version.

I do not think anything can beat Orijen TBH - very good quality food and clear to see even just looking at the consistency of kible, I do not think any food really compares to Orijen. But the price per bag is very high, bag lasted me about 6 weeks but I need to budget monthly and can not afford to buy in bulk/for later etc so...

a bag of this food lasts Zara over 40 days and it costs £22 with free delivery or 39.00 for 2 bags (80 days) - as long as Zara is fine on this I can not really justify spending double/triple the amount on Orijen.

Not with 4 cats to feed as well - perhaps when I win the lotter we will go back to Orijen :)

Orijen worked out £1.40 per day. Autkary works out at £0.48 per day. That is for a 35-40kg dog. Massive difference.

i've just switched from skinners salmon & rice to Autarky salmon dinner as ingredients looked similar but was £10 cheaper. My dog is 7 and i've kept him on adult, but when i tried senior before (store had ran out of wainwrights adult version) i found i needed to feed more to keep them upto weight so may help if needing to lose weight can always give a bag a try.

Momin5 - so the same as Zara - from Skinners Salmon to Autarky salmon

But Zara needs to lose a bit of weight so may try the senior version for a while. See how it goes. Hmmm

Salmons ok and good for the price just stay away from chicken. Was told about on here when put a thread about my partners lab suffering with allergies and recommended Autarky salmon if on budget. She didn't like it as not a fan of fishy food so now on Skinners duck & rice.

Think its a pretty good food though still.

Not everyone can offered Orijen but at least your not giving butchers or pedigree :D

Can't help with the senior as I just feed my 9 yr old GS on the chicken or salmon.
But if anyone is member of Booker's cash and carry, Autarky chicken is £14.99 per sack and no vat to pay on it.

Agree with the above, salmon is an okay budget food. Stay away from the chicken. My friend fed her GSD the salmon and he did well on it. She swapped from Arden grange when cash was tight.

Comparing it to orijen is like comparing a maccies to dinner at the fat duck.

In price as well as quality. Orijen is about the best dry food gets. But it's got a whacking price tag that a lot can't afford.
