But what has the job interview to do with the buyer- I actually think the seller was rude here expecting the buyer to care why spurious reason he had for not posting when he said he did.

what makes you think the reason given by the seller is spurious? It sounds genuine to me

And he didn't say he DID post it, only that he WOULD.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

The job interview might be real, but as an excuse for not taking 10 minutes to post it is spurious.

Whether genuine or not isnt the issue here.
The issue for me would be what has any of that to do with me as the buyer. I purchased an item and was messaged and told it would be posted on a certain day.
Therefore i would expect it to be sent as i had been told not get abuse hurled at me for asking why i was told one thing and seller did something else entirely.

Exactly. What proportion of sellers actually message you after you pay and say they will post on Monday (or whenever)? For me it's about 20%. The rest just click on the dispatched option.

I just can't understand why someone would bother to click a few extra buttons and type a message which is completely unnecessary (and leaves you open to low stars for communication) when he knows that he is lying! Also, why is he even on ebay if he needed to practice...

So now he's decided to refund and attempt a mutual, rather than just posting it next week as I suggested. I'm starting to think that he made a mistake in his BIN price.

This item usually ends between £10 and £12 on auction because of idiots, though it's worth about £9 new. My maximum bid would have been about £7.50 so when I saw the BIN for £6.99 I quickly clicked the button.

Don't forget to decline/refuse* his kind offer - if you ignore it he'll get his fees back.

*forget the actual wording - but the buyer has to take action if you don't want the seller getting his fees back when it's his fault in the first place

(You may have done this already, btw)

Strangely enough I suspect I've got a similar situation building in reverse: a buyer bid last minute, won, then I heard no more. After 4 days, I opened an NPB case and they paid almost immediately, along with a message hassling me to post the item, saying they "have been waiting for it".

Waiting for it? Try paying for it, then you'll have to wait a lot less! (no, I didn't respond with that, I just thought it)

I've had a look at their feedback and it's quite clear that they are unreliable - with a high correlation of claims for INR, so I've sent it "signed for"... no doubt my DSRs will be bad, whatever I do!

Yeah I declined, and (un)suprisingly he has now relisted the item.

Add it to the buyers whom buy something Saturday evening and message on Monday afternoon saying "Item isn't here yet"

As is only allowing 2 days for an item to arrive.
