SP, you have to accept that the world we live in isn't fair. If it was, we wouldn't have inequality, people dying of starvation or people with so much money they can afford to buy x number of tropical islands.
People with PhDs have made a contribution to society. They have researched and developed new ideas which have helped to enhance the society in which we live.
Now tell me why should somebody with a PhD not benefit from a free upgrade when the likes of Posh, Jade Goody et al (who haven't done anything helpful to our society at all), get every freebie going? Where is the justice in that?
Wake up to the real world Phil and be thankful for those that have the patience to complete a PhD as they are the ones who can help make positive changes to the world in which we (and YOU) live.0 -
that didnt get through then:rolleyes:  :rotfl:0

Presumably the ones with the good offers have more that an (expected) 2.2 from a good-but-not-top university in a rather !!!!!! subject?
One of my best friends is swimming in investment banking and grad course offers, for when she finishes this year. She has:
- a good first (in the bag) in maths at the country's best university
- a blue (played major sports for the university)
- held various leadership positions (treasurer here, co-ordinator there)
- several prestigious internships under her belt
Now you may well want to argue that she is 'no better than you'. And in some absolute sense, this is true - but I know who I'd rather be locked in a room with.
But I'm sorry here are the facts, from an employer's point of view:
she *is* better than you. in terms of both ability and effort. she has proven it. deal with it.

cant help you on that one but maybe its best just to choose the one most like your favourite outfit/shoes/handbag (blue or red )
on the other hand we could just go shopping:rotfl:0 -
Okay, I'm wearing blue, so I'll go with the blue team....
unless the red team have better legs0 -
Phil, people have given you ideas on how to improve your life. The problem is that all those ideas involve doing what you don't want to do, which is to get up from the PC and do other things. So.......here is a plan which will make your life better while letting you sit at the PC all day:
1. Be honest with us. We know that the reason you start these threads is that you're feeling sad, lonely and afraid, and you need a chat and some friendship. So stop pretending that you want to 'discuss' various topics.
2. When you feel sad, lonely and afraid, start a thread in MSA saying "I feel sad, lonely and afraid. Please chat to me for a while." You'd be surprised at how nice people here can be if they find someone who genuinely and sincerely asks for help.
3. If you keep that up for a while, you may start to earn some respect from people, rather than the universal contempt in which you are held. Then you will start to enjoy being here.Eh?? I give up!! Towel is getting thrown in here!0 -

IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
