I found a lump under my arm last week and am waiting for hospital referral, family history of BRCA makes it a bit scary and I am suddenly feeling like sorting things out. Focuses the mind.

Wishing you all the best mumps, hope it turns out to be innocent. God bless :)
  • I am so sorry for this Mumps. I too found a lump under my armpit a few weeks after I turned 50:eek::eek::eek: It was bad enough turning 50. I was dreading turning 50 because my mother died when she was 59. She died of cancer. I thought this is it. This is the start. I can worry for Britain.
The first thing I did was to increase my life insurance before I went to the doctor. My husband was furious. But I just wanted to make sure the family were sorted if anything happened.
Anyway, it went away and I then had my breast o gram. So all fine. It was just a blocked follicle apparently.
I am now 53, so I think I have 6 years left, so I had better make the most of it.
Wishing you all the best and I hope yours also turns out fine.

You have just made me think, I had a mammogram about 8 months ago and it was clear. I think that might be a good sign so thank you for that. Fingers crossed and thanks to everyone.

  • I think you are right Mumps. It can only be a good sign.
Even if it was the big C, if you had a mammogram 8 months ago, it cannot have progressed very much.
And in any event, before you felt the lump, it would have developed enough for the mammogram to detect 8 months ago.
    Best wishes anyway!

    Fingers crossed for mumps.

I would suggest it is a great idea for all of us to have our affairs in order. Young or old / fit or healthy we never know how long we may have.

I wish that my Mother would have a sort out of her things. She won't throw anything out , and to make matters worse, hasn't yet sorted out the belongings from 2 sets of grandparents, and my father, all long passed. Her house could be on the tv (and not for good reason) and I dread the day anything happens as it will be down to me to sort it out. A few years ago I bought her a jewellry box and asked if she would put her engagement ring in there (I have never in my life seen it) but of course she hasn't. She has literally hundreds of handbags all with tissues, lipsticks etc in and it is out of control. I have tried many attempts over the years to encourage her to sort through some of her belongings, from gentle encouragement, offers to help, threats, but all to no avail. My oh encourages me to let it go and that it will be alright, but I worry that when the time comes I will be angry rather than able to deal with my loss. A far cry from when my father died - he had a letter in his drawer "in the event of death.........." which whilst heartbreaking, made it so much easier to cope with the practicalities. I know which route I am hoping to go down myself......
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!

A fascinating thread. Look how many of us (I include myself!) want control beyond the grave.

Mum's solicitor suggested that as far as possible these items should be given away before death, to avoid the upset! Especially as you do read about items 'disappearing' before the will's even been found.
The episode of Steptoe and Son ...."Oh, what a beautiful mourning".... always comes to mind when I think about who gets what and when.

For those needing a reminder, it's the one where Albert hides the expensive Capodimonte figurine under his bowler hat before they set off for brother George's funeral service....
