Yes. However, if an incident that prevents you travelling happens within the contract period of the annual policy, you are covered, despite the date of the trip falling after expiry.

Otherwise, as was pointed out to me when I asked the same question, annual policies would be pretty pointless.
I guess whether it's worth it would depend on the cost of the policy vs the loss if something were to crop up that would affect the holiday.

A few years ago we booked a holiday a little over a year in advance, because it was a special holiday and we were limited to very specific dates at a busy time of year. This meant that there was about a 3 month wait before we could take out single trip cover. I looked into an annual policy but it was going to be alot more expensive than I expected the single trip cover to be and we weren't going to be taking any other trips in the year. We decided to take the risk and wait and take out the single trip cover at the earliest opportunity. Worst case scenario we'd have only lost our deposit, which wasn't much more than the annual policy would have cost us, and we would still have needed to take out additional insurance to cover the actual dates of the holiday anyway. We gambled that there wasn't much that could happen in those 3 months that would prevent us taking the holiday which was still over a year away.
Yes, we took a risk, but you can't always insure against every eventuality, no matter how hard you try.

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

Right then, that's my mission for today sorted. Thanks all, back to back annual policies is the way forward I think. Lady Lucks not been so kind lately so I don't want to take the risk.

    Xx
