Barely started a new job and don't think I can do it. Advice on reclaiming benefits,

Is there a way to get out? The day shifts are ok, but the night shifts are what's really scaring me. I think it's really unhealthy having to constantly change hours. I can't afford taxi fares either for these night shifts, since I've just signed off and I won't be paid for a month. But I don't want to get that far. I was forced? to take this job via A4E and I had hoped that I could ask them to put me on a day shift, but they won't. It's all mixed up shifts.
I understand that if you are sacked or walk out, you won't be entitled to any benefits. Could they decide that I'm not suitable for the job if I say that I won't be happy doing night shifts? And would this then mean I'm ok to sign back on and look for a more suitable job?
Thanks for any replies :S
Please don't reply if you'd like to have a go at me for not wanting to stick it out. I've heard a lot the "well, I had to do it!" mentality and it doesn't make anything right.

Is the real issue that you don't want to do the night shifts, that you're scared to do the night shifts, that you can't afford to do the night shifts, or that you physically can't do them?
If it's "can't afford", you could explain things to your employer and see if they'll give you an advance on your wages.
If it's "physically can't" (due to a disability) then you should speak to your manager about whether any reasonable adjustments can be made.
If it's "scared", it depends what you're scared of.0 -
Wow. Have you any idea what our emergency services and armed forces do? They don't get to work 9-5.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

It's different for those people, they chose to do it. But I asked you kindly not to reply.
It's scared about my health. I physically and mentally won't be able to change so often.0 -

Why not? Lots of other people do?
Its tireing, yes, but human beings can cope with it.0 -
Just look for another job while you are doing this one. No need to go back to unemployed again to look for something else.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

It's clearly not healthy and not everyone is the same. I can't believe you're throwing that at me like the others.0 -

Really? unhealthy? Go on then explain to me how you arrive at that conclusion.
I have to add that alternating shifts never did me any harm and I worked them for years.

I really don't have to. You have google and this isn't what I'm here for. Don't reply again.0

Odd that you are happy to take the benefits partly paid for by the people doing mixed shifts etc.whatihavedone wrote: »It's clearly not healthy and not everyone is the same. I can't believe you're throwing that at me like the others.

How often are you changing shifts?
I, and many others, have done shift work with no ill effects. You learn to adapt.0
