There is not just bailiffs, a court can add an attachment of earnings or a charging order also. The creditor usually applies for which ever they feel is more appropriate.

They certainly can pursue her for Irish debt over here, I am just not sure in which ways they can enforce it.

I've just contacted next and asked them if I updated my address is it updated on my credit file and they said another credit search is not conducted .. Does this mean it hasn't updated my credit file?
  • It will still update on your credit file..

But if I don't make any orders or anything they don't have any info to give them I suppose.
  • Think they still update it monthly to say you have a £0 balance..

Maybe you should order a free copy of your credit report. When I first saw my credit report, it had the defaulted accounts listed on it. So at least you would know if they had the £4k on your credit report linked to you..

stop worrying. im assuming the republic and not northern ireland.

1st they can't get a ccj in the uk for irish debt. if they know that your in the uk they can't use the irish civil enforcement against you as your not in that country. if no irish court ruling then no british one will be issued. so you should be safe there.

2nd your credit record in the uk will not show any irish debt. only british credit is reported.

the debt collectors can chase you and threaten you but not much else.

how old is the debt. if its old then don't pay or admit anything. ireland has its own statute barred debt system.
  • Yeah mine had my address on it..

If they havent contacted you before now then perhaps they wont..

On my online report it showed that one of the compnaies that I ahd been ignoring had been doing address traces on me.

You can only really wait it out and see if a letter comes or make contact with them yourself and offer £1.

They cant take something you do not have to give, so please try not too worry too much

You have had some good advice on here about offering token payments and starting to sort things out.

That would be the sensible thing to do.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
