He was Chinese, perhaps there were some Chinese coins mixed up! It was very annoying as i had to trapse out with a big bag of change. I felt like a right schmuckThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

As long as the correct change is dispensed I really couldn't care less (as long as it's not all in pennies!)0

Because sometimes people just give out pound coins automatically, out of habit, no biggy!0 -
Yes but how often do 50ps get used?
I think it's down to the stats of what the average change is from a shopping trip. If the stats show that only 1/4 of change requires a 50p, then it would be pointless having it in there when the space can be used for more common change.
I do agree with the handling bit also.
If you think about it a 50p is needed for change over 50p. On a purely random basis you would expect half of all change dispensing to be 50p or above.
In fact because shops tend to price items at just below the nearest pound (£1.95 etc occurs more frequently than £2.01for example) and the number of items in a transaction is relatively small at a self service till; the real life figure is lower; depending on the business type.
Retailer's do these calculations and in the area I have knowledge of; the figure is nearer a third of transactions .
Retailer's have to balance minor customer inconvenience with cost0 -

There are only a certain number of coin dispenser slots in the machine and all other coins customers use to pay (eg 50p coins) go into the coin overflow as there is no slot for them. Hope this makes sense!
Should add, if the machine is low in coins, it may result in you getting more of another coin..e.g if you are due 10p change and the machine is low in 5ps, you will get coppers.
I disagree both on the design of the machine and the "slots". If you look inside a self service machine you will see that some coins occupy two bins. The US has six coins $1 or less (see the US mint circulating coins page) , we have 7. So by your logic we could skip the 2p and fill all the dispensers.
Incidentally, machines differ but I believe mostdesigns keep coins tendered and change coins separate.0 -

Which was EXACTLY the point I was making! I'll bet you could start an argument in an empty room.0 -

You might want to rephrase that reply. Geordiegirl256 was supporting your stance - it was battleborn (pertinent forum name?) that was disputing your comment.0 -

Excuse me while I go to an empty room and start an argument0 -
Cut from the cloth of the flag that bears the name 'battleborn'
Sometimes people forget the change in notes that come out, because they are from a lower tray.
Would you or wouldnt you?0
