If you're a company car driver you should be able to get a 3 day test. Otherwise it's at the discretion of the local dealer.

Ask! Tell the dealer you want to test drive it on the motorway.

Waste as much of the Vauxhall dealer/salesman's time as you can, before ordering from a broker to save £2 each month - they'll be delighted to see you when you visit with warranty problems!
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

Although if the car is under warranty and they happen to be a Vauxhall dealer then they can be as delighted as they like, they still need to honour the warranty of their parent company. :)

Whilst you are right a dealership does have to honour the warranty. Courtesy vehicles, collection & delivery and speed of the repair are down to the dealership to sort out! They are going to look after their own customers first! If you were their customer you would also expect them to do this for you.

Don't worry about this, the dealer gets the same money from Vauxhall for warranty work wherever the car came from.

I have 3 Skoda Dealers all desperate to service my Octavia I got through Drive the deal. The one 300 miles away that supplied the car, they can't really get their heads around that the service might be £20 cheaper but the 600 miles might put me off. One that did some warranty work when on holiday (fan was always on). Finally the local one who said they could not get the car for the price I was getting it.

Sounds like the attitude of a garage heading for administration.

I'm sure the OP's local Vauxhall dealer will have a very strong business, wasting it's resources carrying out 'free test drives'. They're totally safe from financial difficulty.

Also, the salesman involved could miss selling a genuine customer a car whilst he is out doing Ling's job for her - hope his children don't suffer as a result of his lack of income...

I'm not saying people shouldn't lease a car from an online broker if that's what they wish to do, but please, don't take advantage of others.

Yes they do - not enough! Warranty work isn't profitable, it's a 'necessary evil' of the job.

Servicing work IS profitable, and as such I totally accept that a number of dealers will want your business.

    Please understand the difference.

Take advantage of others? Dealers all have similar margins on cars. If the garage that offers the test drive chooses to complete with an online broker then he may get the business. Its up to individual dealerships to chose how much they want that order
