What things did you really want/need on your moving day?

A half competent conveyancer and estate agent would have been top of my list, closely followed by a buyer and vendor with some sense of urgency, morals and common decency...
  • Some paracetamol and plasters, just in case. Hand soap.

If you are taking it around on the day they move then a Flask of hot water, Instant coffee sachets with creamer already in. Pen, paper. toilet roll and paracetamol. Also some bottles of juice and some sandwhiches & fruit. Packet of biscuits and depending on the cooking facilities perhaps take a slow cooker round with a meal in or a cottage pie for the oven for the evening.

If you're putting a bottle of wine in, make sure that either it's a screw top or you also put in a corkscrew.

Handcream... all that shifting and cleaning I was desperate and couldn't find the box I packed it in.

When you move.. Job 1.. build the beds!!! Nothing else matters so long as you can go to bed on the night!

You have a box marked 'kettle' with the essential drinks stuff and some sandwiches/biscuits/crisps to hand so you can have a cuppa and life is complete.

Some things from recent experience: Gloves to protect their hands from the boxes, the travel first aid kit also got used a lot. A extra pair of scissors, so that more than one person can open boxes (our neighbours when they moved in ended up borrowing ours, luckily we had spares :) ).

When we mvoed last year it took me ages to find where one of us had hidden the duvet covers. We had to use sleeping bags for a few days.

Whenever we move I change the bedding and then roll it up and bag it. The first job I do (after cleaning the bedroom) is to set the bed up - that way I know there's somewhere comfy to go at the end of a long day!
