I think it's best to go with the delivery method that was originally advertised.

As I've said before, I'm not keen on couriers for small to medium items, so I actively look for Royal Mail delivery, as it is a convenient method for me, and I'm happy to pay a (reasonable) cost for this.

If my parcel subsequently arrived by Myhermes, and it caused me inconvenience, I'd knock a star off on postage and packing.

  • I've sent it RM this afternoon & just noticed another poster complaining about an item being advertised as RM and then myhermes trying to deliver & subsequent problems with missing delivery etc.

Lesson learnt - I need to make a size template like they use in the PO!

Thanks for all your replies :-))

I would just send it hermes, I've in the past myself accidently left up for rm 2nd class option when I charged for hermes. As I use both it's easy sometimes to forget to change the check box. You would be very unlucky to get a buyer who moaned or even noticed that you had sent it by hermes instead of rm. IMO as long as the item gets there within the time specified most buyers don't care. Hermes are sometimes easier as they will leave it somewhere 'safe' instead of making the buyer collect from somewhere. There is no depo for a buyer to collect from anyway with hermes the courier will just come back the next day.

I agree! I sell thousands of stuff on ebay as my living and if it works out cheaper to use my hermes than RM then i use the cheaper! I have never had a complaint about it and I have found my hermes very good with deliverys. Save the pennies (more like pounds these days) and send my hermes. Also use the drop off service as that will save you money and go direct to their website as if you go through parcel2go or simmilar it is usually more expensive.

I would mark down any seller who sent my item via a postage method other than that I was expecting unless they confirmed with me first.

  • That's what I thought Soolin - so went with RM as that was the postal service I stated in the listing. It's worth a couple of quid to protect my feedback for another day!I will however be using myhermes in future - in fact I sent my first item with them yesterday - listing for that particular item stated Hermes in the postal service and I am impressed with how easy it was, just hope delivery arrives ok!

Thanks for all your responses. :-)

One main difference is that if your buyer goes away for a few days and it has been sent RM it will be safely stored at the sorting office. If sent by myhermes it could well be left in a 'safe' place: in my case under or often next to our caravan and not protected from rain water that runs underneath.

I had two parcels left by Yodel yesterday in, quotes, "a safe place". This safe place was my doorstep where they were on full view. Not impressed.

Like other posters here I won't buy on ebay from anyone who uses a courier. If an auction stated RM postage and they then used a courier without consulting me I would leave negative feedback.

Anyway I'm glad to see that you did what you contracted to do in your listing and used Royal Mail.
