Thanks everyone - I'm delighted! He is a lovely lad. We all go to my mum's for tea once a week, and he joins in everything, even the washing up
. We all get on very well. 0 -

He's a keeper!
Glad she's found a good un
It's good that you get on with him too. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

He's quite MSE as well, doesn't like debt :money:
Another plus, he's willing to do the accounts for Brownies for me. It's only balancing the income and expenditure, but it's a job I really don't enjoy. He likes it though, and as he studied accounting, he was talking about it in more depth than needed. I might take him up on the offer of helping with an assets register though

I think it is lovely when a guy asks permission to marry someones daughter. Really respectful. Though when my ex asked my dads permission he said no. So he asked me without me being aware of this and I said yes. My dad got it right unfortunately.
I think it's sickening. We don't own our children. Anyone who asked us for our daughter's 'hand in marriage' would not be worthy of her.
Congratulations to your family, OP.0 -

Sickening? Come on! :rotfl:It's a tradition which shows respect for the parents that's all.
I think you deciding that a lad asking for your permission to propose to your daughter is "not worthy" of her, is a million times more mental than him asking in the first place?
Seriously, lighten up!0 -

Congratulations to your family, OP.
Am I surprised at your reaction? No!
OP - many congratulations to your daughter and b/f ...and to his parents for bringing up a well-mannered son! I wish them every happiness - and may you all enjoy this happy time.0
