Hi
I've been trying to remove some programmes from the start up menu. But when I go into Control Panel, Task Bar/Start up/Advanced there's no list of attached progs. so I can't unattach them if you get my drift....?
Where else can I look please?
Thanks

click on start and then run and type msconfig. look along the top and the last tab should be startup items. Just untick the ones you want rid off
Also check under all programs and startup0 -

Click the Start button, click on run, type in msconfig, when the new screen pops up click on the Startup tab. Programs that start up are listed there.
You can also get programs that list the startup apps for you in a friendly format but don't know any off hand.

Faster than a speeding bullet...amazing....thank you all.
I've done what you said and cancelled the main ones I didn't want, but there are lots I don't recognise. How do I find out what they are?Stop looking for answers....

The best way is to google the exe file
The top results are usually sites that will tell you what the file is and if it is safe to remove it0 -
http://www.tune-up.com/ - has a start-up managerI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

I use Startup Mechanic - it's free and it advises on whether items are good bad or plain useless to have in your startup list.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I've been following instructions but despite being disabled the unwanted programmes are still monotonously there every time I start up.
So tomorrow I will try one of the suggested downloads and see if that works any better.
thanks again.Stop looking for answers....
