Google Nexus 4 battery question

I am tempted to buy the Google Nexus 4, my concern is with the non-removable battery. I have owned a ZTE Blade (Orange San Francisco) then an HTC Desire and now a Samsung Galaxy S2, ocassionally with all these phones I have had to pull the battery out when they hang or crash. You cant pull the battery on a Nexus 4 so how do you deal with these kind of hanging issues?
Thanks

You hold the power button down for 10 seconds or so and the phone, should reboot.

It should. It's not quite as robust as pulling the battery however. What do you do if you hold the power button down for ten seconds and it refuses to reboot? Or what if the power button fails?

Thanks guys. It sounds like that will do the trick most of the time but I cant help but think there must be a hardware reset button on the device somehow?

Power button and down volume key re-boots the phone. Always works.

Always? Not if either button is faulty. Or if the processor is stuck in a loop, unable to respond to hardware interrupts.

    It is.

I've had a Nexus 4 for a month or so, and this lack of ability to pull the battery slipped my mind when I was choosing it...

My old Defy needed the battery pulling often, but touch wood so far the Nexus has been fairly stable. I have had to reboot it once or twice when it was in a slightly strange state, but I've never yet seen it totally unresponsive. Of course, this is early days, I haven't messed with custom ROMs, there may be sample variance in the hardware, etc...

It was something that crossed my mind before buying mine three months ago but I went ahead after considering that millions of other smartphones without a removable battery have been sold.

I've not yet had to worry about a crash.
  • I've had my Nexus 4 for 3 months and haven't had a crash or freeze yet.
