Natwest Mastercard S75/Chargeback Refund Letter Query

    It shouldnt be automatically dealt with as anything. If you call your bank and say you want to do a chargeback then they will decide if they are willing to do a chargeback or not and wont tell you that actually they wont do a chargeback but will do a S75 claim instead.

    Banks will always prefer chargebacks to S75 because with the former they only give you the money if they get it back first. With S75 they give you the money irrespective if they can recover it or not.

    You would need to say EXACTLY what you said/ wrote to them.

    Not strictly true. Banks have to refund upfront when a transaction is disputed. They will then redebit you if the chargeback fails.

    PSD regulations cover this.

    So they've given me the money back, but they can come back to me down the line and take it back off me if the chargeback isnt successful?? Why give it to me in the first place!! I wont spend it until I know for definite but surely that is asking for trouble in other cases!

    Apologies, I dont mean to rant just that I have enough with it - the company that went bust have been a complete pain in the !!!! and I just want my cash back!

    I telephoned Natwest and they put me through to the disputes team, I didnt say 'Section 75' to them - merely asked to start the process as the company I was dealing with have gone bust. They sent me a form and I sent it back to them with all the supporting documents.

    Maybe I'll give them a ring and see what they say.

    If they've actioned a chargeback then yes, they may redebit you if the chargeback fails. If the company is bought out and continues to trade, or if they have your goods and are able to supply them, then they might reject the chargeback. PSD regulations make the card issuer refund you upfront. So many people complained about being made to wait for a refund that the procedures were changed.

    Never really had a customer complain about being refunded before !

    Well personally I don't like the idea that they refund you, only to potentially take it away from you down the line. They should make one decision and either pay you or not and make it final.

    This is never going to be the case because if you are committing fraud (eg saying you hadnt received goods when you had) it may take a while to come to light and the bank will always have clauses that they can recover their money easily rather than having to go via the courts etc.

    Added to this issue is the time limits that are set on chargebacks are basically too short but are designed to favour genuine customers with the small set of issues for fraudulent customers (and potentially suppliers)

    Well fingers crossed they wont be coming back to me, as I am in a genuine situation and not committing fraud :)
