Natwest Mastercard S75/Chargeback Refund Letter Query

Hi all,
Hope this is the right place!
I recently put a Section 75/Chargeback claim in with Natwest for £1000 after a company went bust.
I received a letter from them saying that they put the credit back to my account (yay), but there was this paragraph in the letter...
"However it maybe necessary to return to you at a later date should our actions be questioned or if further info is received"
Can anyone tell me if this is a generic response for a letter of this type? Or does it mean the case is still under investigation?
I'd obviously like to retireve my money (my card had zero balance so I am £1k in credit) but if they are going to come back at me down the line, I dont want to not have it should they request it back??
Any thoughts??

I had a similar response when I claimed my flight costs when Globespan went under back in 2009. I think it's a standard paragraph just to cover them in the event they've refunded you in error.0

Well it will depend on if it is a chargeback or S75.
Chargeback the retailer has the right to contest. 45 days to do so.
S75, will be a full and final settlement.
So i expect it has been delt with as a chargeback, hence the statement on hte letter.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Thank you both for responding!
Not sure whether it was a chargeback/S75 (clear from the thread title) but I think I'll wait for 45 days and then withdraw the moneyI dont need it straightaway but I'd rather it was in my savings account earning interest.
I am hoping the retailer wont contest since they have been liquidated!0 -
Put it in a savings acc now.
You should be informed if they were going to redebit. As there can be other options if retailer rejects.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Pretty standard it seems. They are leaving open the option of recovering it if, for example, your claim turned out to be fraudulent. In the case of S75 there is joint and several liability. If in parallel the merchant had refunded you then the CC could attempt recovery from you. (You can't double recover.)0

Thanks both - I'll ring and get the money out asap - hopefully if it is sorted under S75 then I wont hear anything more - the company I am claiming from are no longer in existence!0

Sounds like a chargeback has been done on the basis of the quote that you have given.
With a chargeback they simply ask for the money back from the merchant and due to the tight timescales etc it often is given before the merchant has a realistic chance of responding hence them saying things may change.
With S75 then they are paying it out of their own pocket, they have a subjugated right of recovery from the merchant but if they successfully recover or not would make no difference to the money you have. Only time there is an issue is if both the merchant and the credit card company have refunded you.0 -

the administrators could though if validDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -
Thanks chanz4 and insideinsurance

The payment was made on a Mastercard and the original payment was £1,000, therefore, as it was over £100, should this have been dealt with automatically as a S75 claim?
I am just still unsure whether it was dealt as this or chargeback due to the letter - I presumed it was S75 due to the amount..
Thanks0 -
It will be a standard response. Chargeback fraud is very common, especially when companies have gone bust, because people wrongly believe that the seller won't come up with proof that an item has been delivered. So they often try it on.0
