iPhone 5 Lost/Stolen HELP NEEDED
My phone has been lost/stolen since Sunday morning. When I first realised it was missing, I rang it. The phone rang and then just went to voicemail.
I then rang Orange and got them to bar the sim. I don't have mobile insurance, and the home insurance doesn't cover it, because it didn't get stolen from the house. I have since rang Orange and got them to unbar the sim, so that I could use the "Find my iPhone" to try to locate it, however the device is offline, and when I ring the phone it goes straight to voicemail.
I got Orange to bar the sim again, and got them to block the IMEI number, so the phone is no use in the UK. I discussed some options with Orange, but they weren't of much help. Basically, they said a new device would cost £500, or else I would just have to buy a different mobile and use the replacement sim card in that.
I've certainly learnt my lesson about making sure that Im covered for that sort of thing in the future...
But if anyone has any sort of help/advice then it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

As Orange said, buy a new/secondhand phone that you can afford and use it with the replacement sim card that they sent you. There are not any other options. The cheapest smartphones cost less than £50, decent ones about £100-£150.0

Yeah, think thats what I'm going to have to do tbh.
It's taught me a lesson anyway. I'm hardly into my contract at all. Do Apple cover it at all? One of the buttons had stopped working on the phone, and I had an appointment at Apple tomorrow morning to get brand new phone.0 -
Without the phone to show them the fault ....No.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Obviously not the answers I wanted to hear, but thanks anyway folks.
Have found an old phone lying about the house and it has a virgin simcard in it. But it says orange on the phone, are virgin and orange the same thing now?0 -
Virgin do use EE network and if the phone is locked to Orange it is likely to work with Virgin sim.0

Are you sure your phone is not coverd by home insurance. I have lost or stolen phone automatically with Santander on the contents only insurance.
I often lose my phone, but inside the home and once in Tesco after late night shopping. I retraced my steps (after having a cup of tea and a cake) and found it at Tesco.Nice security gaurd found it.
Sorry for your loss.0 -
Well I don't personally own the home insurance but it is under my mum and dads name. It was an added extra to add it to personal contents. Currently, it is only covered if it is stolen from within the house...
Just another question. Is it possible to trace the number that is using the phone from the IMEI number?
I see there is a company called "hackmyiphone" that say they can do this for you?0 -
The IMEI number is used when ever the sim in the phone is used and the phone is turned on. Yes it is traceable depending on what programm they use eg see what numbers are called or location.
Becareful as some are just cons trying to get your money and details
Your carrier should have blocked the phone by now to stop it being used on all networks.
PS check with cash converters and cash genarator and other electrical shops.0 -
In theory all second hand dealers should consult a lost and stolen register .
However theory and practice are two different approaches, but there is a web site http://www.immobilise.com/.
This site has the support of quite a number of Police forces and the likes of Cash Converters, Cash Generator, Cex and other second hand stores .
I have put most of my small electrical hand tools, laptop, phones etc on to the register ie those most likely to be nicked.
Apparently this site is interlinked with the National Mobile Property Register and Check Mend.
Our local Crime Prevention officer suggested it and as its free to use whats to lose.0
