the “smallprint” may determine whether an insurance company would pay. I’ve just looked at the “general exceptions” section of my policy. It says:

“You must do all you can reasonably do to avoid injury, loss or damage and protect your property.”

If your insurers have a similar clause (which they no doubt will have) they could argue that failing to lock the front door contravenes that clause. A burglary should be reported anyway even if no forced entry happened so they could look for prints, but could be possible you wont get any money and lose ncd as well.

I doubt that it would be remotely worth bothering if you left an item unlocked or on display and realised it was gone you are going to be told we cannot help as no forced entry was made but all the various companies have their own policies, and could be very disappointed if you keep leaving ipods in carseats with windows down and patio doors open in the night with a big telly on view and a laptop and wallet lying about and keys to a nice car! Burglars would be over the moon!

Having seen the photo of the doll I'd be leaving all the car doors and windows open and paying someone to nick it/take it away.
Some people's interests never cease to amaze. (Although they probably say that about mine as well.)
We're still hoping my mum's stolen jewellery will turn up on ebay, but no luck so far.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I actually spat my tea out laughing at that , couldnt have said it better myself, am sorry to read about your mums jewellery being pinched,( that I could understand someone feeling devastated and upset about )but not the bride of Chuckie!

I can see why she would do it - my tent and equipment was stolen last year from my garage and I was trawling Ebay hoping it would show up...

I once went on a camping holiday in Newquay with a brand new tent. After two days there, we popped out for the day and returned to find it gone. Must of took them a good half hour to take that down too. Some people are such scum bags.
