Will i be without the internet during any of the switchover?

We've just transferred to Plusnet from O2 this morning, and I was surfing up until the BT engineer called.

Everything went quite smoothly and the engineer said our line would support 80 mb. The BT fibre cabinet is situated just a little along the lane. Apparently this speed takes a while to build up.

The phone transfer is done after the fibre broadband is set up, we have a date for this during May.

    Good luck.

I got moved to plusnet fibre in Jan I was off for around 1 1/2 hours. This was because my line switched to fibre at the box on street, then the BT openworld came to install fibre in house. Then he tested it to see if works. I couldn't use it for a further 1/2 hour as plusnet hadn't given me net access. Very pleased with reliability and speeds I get 62Mbps for £10 a month for 6 months then £20 a month. I didnt switch phone to Plusnet for a further 2 weeks due to notice given to old provider out of contract long ago.

No it doesn't. DLM is suppressed/wide open for the first 30 hours or so of a new FTTC install so you'll get the best speed your line will support immediately. After 30 hours, if there's instability and/or errors on your line the DLM will intervene to reduce synch and/or apply interleaving.

If anyone reading this is with BE (related to O2), and they also have BE landline, then please be aware that you CANNOT have landline-only with BE ... if the broadband is migrated first then BE will cancel the landline (after a period of time), which will then cancel the broadband with the new ISP because broadband cannot function without a running landline (even fibre).

What you need to do is make sure the new provider moves the PHONE FIRST! Alternatively move to another landline rental provider that offers a monthly contract (to get the landline away from BE) and THEN sign-up with the new provider (e.g. Plusnet). :)

Is PlusNet customer service any good? I was going to go for it in my new house. I'm not in a fire optic area but just wondering how their broadband runs. More important for me is customer service.

Went with o2 but now planning to cancel as I'm not happy with them.

Plusnet are very good from what i have read, they may even do FTTC which is fibre to the cabinet then they use the regular phone line for the fibre. If you go to http://www.plus.net/ you can check what's available there.

I think Plusnet have just won the Which? award for customer service.

We phoned at the weekend and the phone was answered within
a few minutes. The assistant was helpful and friendly.
