Thomas Cook never informed me that there were construction works going on when i booked the hotel...they should have told me in advance in my opinion, so that i could have chosen a different hotel when it was cheaper then.
The letter states that the T&C already mention about the risk of building works, but i can't find these.
I can't choose another hotel as prices have gone up drastically and i can't afford it, therefore i think Thomas Cook should be liable to pay for any extra costs incurred.
because there wouldnt have been any when you arrived had it run to schedule
so you wouldnt have been affected
nobody is missing the point at all
I agree however that TC should be meeting you in the middle in some way with regard to the costs0 -
I just spoke to my sister who used to work in the travel industry and she said what Custardy said is right.
The were not obliged to tell you of any building work because it should have been finished when you are visiting, and that for any change of hotel the additional costs would be down to you.0 -
Thats all we ask for Custardy. If they can move us to another hotel thats like-for-like, then it should be Thomas Cook who should pay the difference and not us. We only have less than 4 weeks to find a similar hotel and whereas we managed to get a 4-star hotel all-inclusive, next to the beach in february, we can't find one at that price anymore. The cheapest found is approx £100pp per room extra...now you tell me where are we supposed to get £600-700 from?0

no doubt prices for your existing hotel will have went up pro rata so I don't see the problem changing to an equivalent.
Next doors building site might not affect you anyway.
I stayed at Sheraton Jumeira Beach, when all around us the Marina and Jumeira Residences were being built . It really was a massive construction site but you would never have known it, within the hotel grounds0 -

But if Thomas Cook fully expected the construction works to be complete by your check-in date, why would they have told you?0 -
We didn't misunderstand
Work was due to be completed by (say) 30 April and your holiday is for 15th May ...would be a waste of everyone's time to notify you about something that wouldn't be happening when you were there. TC are now informed construction work was delayed so will not be complete by your arrival date-so are now letting you know. Not sure why this is such a difficult concept tbh.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Have you actually spoken to Cooks about what are comparative hotels price-wise ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I am confused how this is TC's fault...a construction delay (I assume it's not their property).
Consider calling the hotel directly and asking about the impact of the construction on guests...as some have said, it could be absolutely fine.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Are you aware that the whole of this area is a building site, not just next door? It is very much as budgetflyer describes in Dubai, a relatively new tourist resort still under development.0

Because as the tour operator they are responsible for ensuring what they sell is as described on the packet. Any professional and competent operator would know that construction works are more likely than not likely to over-run. Is it unreasonable to make a customer aware that there are construction works adjacent to their selcted resort but that they rescheduled to complete before arrival, but that cannot be guaranteed. The customer can then make an informed choice. I cannot see what the problem is giving that heads up? Unless of course the operator is more interested in ££££ than customer care and service. Tour operators are very keen to have copious T&C's that give them a "way out", so why the problem with giving a bit of factual info?
They should offer the OP the choice of moving to an equivalent resort at no extra charge. They should take responsibility for providing the service they are being paid for. They should not be looking for an opportunity to cash in.0
