I did A car boot sale this morning (a lazy bones one as I don't do early on a Sunday)

It is not uncommon now for a dealer to ask about something and then , whilst holding it under their arm, check ebay for prices on their smart phones. Obviously that stuff doesn't sell to them as I wouldn't be car booting it if it sold on ebay. However, the casual buyers still fall over themselves and speak in hushed tones to each other about selling the stuff they buy from me on ebay- good luck there then is all I can say!

Not many people are going to publish their secret ebay best sellers here, but turning the question on its head there are a few items which perhaps are accepted as valuable and turn out not to be all that valuable. Here are some

Ladybird books (apart from one or two)
    Comic annuals
    Churchill crowns
    Commemorative mugs and plates

I do not want to hyjack the thread and cahnge it, but perhaps by a process of elimination you might get some help from knowing what does NOT sell on ebay.

    Agreed
99% of books unless you're asking 99p + give free postage.
    Cassettes
    CDs ...even scarce ones
Most glassware unless top quality or very very old and in perfect nick.
Chipped glass or ceramics unless extremely old or extremely rare.
Used clothes with any stains at all
Most High Street brand clothes (used) unless you want to give them away.
"White metal" objects (ie no hallmark)
    Most brass items
Victorian objects for which there's no longer any use like bed warming pans or candle snuffers (unless very very very unusual)
I could go on but I'm busy slitting my wrists

There's nothing on sale that justifies getting up at 6am on a Sunday!
Certainly not an airfield full of wannabe secondhand car dealers, selling the remains of a loft clearance that nobody would buy on eBay, even after relisting every free listing weekend for a year!

I cleared some old stock and some odds and ends and made over £80 after entry fees and breakfasts (bribes) for my helpers.

I sold no books or clothes, I didn't even bother to take them this time. My son did take DVDs, all fairly recent ones and sold a few at 50p

I used to collect coins as a kid and the Churchill cowns have never had any value, I think they may be worth less now than ever, they were seriously over minted.

The market for coins in general has dipped quite a bit over the last 20 years. It's only really coins with material value (gold and silver) that tend to do well.

Anything that would have been hoarded at one time is now for sale by all and sundry so the markets in lots of areas have disappeared thanks to the internet.

Smart phones eh. How would be be without them.

As soolin mentions i was in the garden centre today using their free wifi to check prices on competitors websites.

My FIL thinks his coin collection is worth loads but they are mainly from the london mint? One coin he says is worth about £800 was selling for £60 - £80 on ebay.

You need to be careful buying anything these days, One minutes its worth a fair bit the next week nobody can give them away.

I tend to put things through ebay mabe three or four times, then it goes to a boot sale for a few weeks and then dropped off at a charity shop.

I think that most people who sell at both places do the same sort of thing so very few bargains to be found now unless you have real knowledge in certain fields...xx

    Used toothbrushes.

These fetch megamoney on ebay, not openly advertised though, it's a fetish thing.

Buy as many as you can.

Watched one out of curiosity - can't believe how much it went for!!!! Must start selling my old ones....
