Boiler Cover - Corgi Home Plan

Anyone looking for boiler cover, I'd steer clear of the above mentioned unless you are willing/able to do half the work yourself!
Corgi home plan cover are not the cheapest on the market, but we went with them because they covered everything we wanted them to, ie boiler, plumbing, electrics etc.
Our boiler is dropping in pressure and we are having to top it up every single day. Rang corgi, sent an engineer to have a look. Showed him the leaking radiator in lounge and the leaking overflow pipe outside! He fixed the radiator, said it wasn't that, checked the pipe outside said it wasn't that! Said (without even looking or going upstairs), you have a leak in your bathroom (there's a watermark on the ceiling which has been there years from a previous leak). I told him that the bathroom had been fully tiled from top to bottom after the previous leak was fixed! He quoted 'We fix the leak - you have to look and locate the leak and then call us back out'!). Never heard something so ridiculous in all my life. Rang Corgi to ask if this was the case just in case the plumber just couldnt' be bothered to fix anything (all he talked about was the fact that he was going on holiday in 2 days time!). They confirmed that it WAS indeed the case. The customer has to locate and identify the leak and they would then fix it. Errm ok, what if we rip all the tiles away and cannot find the leak i asked him. His reply 'you will have to keep going until you locate it!' I then asked him 'how does the engineer know its in the bathroom, when he never even went upstairs?' Corgi's reply 'experience, that's what!'
So now we have a dilemma, do we rip the bathroom apart when we know the leak is not there? Do we get someone independent to have a look? We are paying £16.99 a month for this cover and they are already 2 months late with our annual service!
Any advice would be appreciated. Boiler is 7 years old so dont want to NOT cover it, but wonder if the other companies request the customer FINDS the leak themselves and only then will they fix it? Just an extra: I asked Corgi "what would happen if I was an 87 year old lady who had no family? Are you seriously expecting that lady to locate the leak herself? Corgi's reply "thats just hypothetical and I cannot comment on that! GGGGRRRRRR!

hi if your dropping pressure on a combi system with no signs of a leak with in the house the 1st place i would check is the copper pipe that comes out the wall behind the boiler look for water down the wall or water on the end of the pipe . dose the pressure go above 3 when the heating is on that usually shows the expansion vessel has gone on the boiler. Unfortunately most plans are like this its a get out of jail free card for them because if the lad was to rip your house a part to find it then you would expect him to make good not cost effective in there eyes..... personally scrap the plan put your money to one side and when you have a problem call a gas lad out and get it fixed then0

Many thanks for your prompt reply. There is water coming from the pipe outside (only noticed this today because it was a dry day and yet there was a large wet patch on the yard floor). The water pressure does not go about 3. The dial does rise when the central heating is on but then it drops straight back to approximately where it was to start with. The only other thing the engineer said about the boiler was that the hot water pipe was scorching hot and it shouldn't be because we hadn't actually run any water, hot or otherwise! Don't know if this has any significance! Thank goodness for this forum - wish I had a friend who was a heating engineer instead of being fobbed off by companies that you pay hundreds of pounds to, for absolutely nothing.
Going to try and take some of the tiles of the bath etc this weekend and see if we can see a leak, if not, what do I do? Phone them back on Monday saying we've checked the bathroom and a leak and we don't have one, please come and fix the blooming boiler! Many thanks for your reply once again.0 -
hi don't take the tiles off yet.... if the pipe at the back of the boiler is leaking water the it ether a passing pressure relief valve or split expansion vessel call them back up and tell them the boiler is blowing off and get that checked first
personally as a heating engineer its one of the 1st things i check when i get called to a job were the customer is loosing pressure

Thanks again. Sorry 'blowing off' - is that where the boiler makes a booming noise? If so, We had this earlier in the year and it needed a new ignition switch. Sorry, I work in NHS and know absolutely nothing about boilers so dont know what you mean by that - could you explain please! Thank you for much for your help and advice so far. Much appreciated.0

its just a engineer definition for the pressure relief or other wise known as a blow off valve passing. The booming sound you heard last year was explosive ignition caused by a build up of gas before the boiler managed to light it, this wouldn't cause a pressure drop
if the guy on the phone has any clue he will know what you mean and send some one out to you

OP tie a plastic bag over the copper pipe on the outside & see if you get water in it, if you do then the prv will need replacing, corgi will cover this, you may get the same engineer as he will get a callback, but tell the office when you phone what you have done & that it will req a new prv, phone during the week during office hrs, as at the weekend or eve it is a call centre & they don't have access to your records.
just for your info the below is taken from your t&c's

If a leak from internal pipework is discovered and is not easily
accessible, the leak must be exposed prior to our engineers attendance
e.g. removal of plasterboard, lifting of floorboards etc.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
