Nokia 3501i Unlocking problem

Hi
I wonder if anyone knows why my sim card is not allowing outgoing calls on the Nokia 3501i (ex Orange) I've just unlocked. It works ok with my other sim card (O2) but just not this one (also O2 network). Any advice would be welcome,

Thanks (in advance)

If the phone has no probs with one o2 sim card but not another o2 sim card then I'd say it's likely to be the sim card itself at fault. Can you not try this other sim card in another phone?
  • It works ok in a different phone - that's the strange thing

Are the O2 simcards PAYG or contract? Might make a difference

If you can make outgoing calls in another phone then how about the following:-

Do you get a signal in the phone you have problems with?

    If so:-
Can you receive incoming calls on it?
Are you able to dial short codes like 1471, 4444/2425 (if its PAYG)?
Are you able to dial customer services?
What does it sound like when its trying to make an outgoing call? Eg, is it constantly engaged or does phone say its ringing but you just cant hear anything (eg ringing/engaged tone)?
  • Both simcards (the one that works and the one that doesn't) are O2 PAYG, it is possible to receive calls and but not dial short numbers and when you try to dial a "normal no" you get a mesage on the screen saying "call not allowed" and a red stop sign. It's as if the sim card itself has call barring on it but as I said before it still works fine on the old phone and a different sim card works ok on the new unlocked phone.

do you still have the orange simcard for the phone as it was unlocked from orange and does that one work?

have a spare 02 sim if you want to try another?
  • Thanks for the offer, that's very kind but I do have a couple of spares myself, its just we really wanted to keep the number of the one that doesn't work - typical!!

That case just ask o2 to port that number from the simcard that is faulty in the 3510i to one of your spare simcards (ideally that has a crap hard to remember number on it)?

It sounds as though the one sims card is locked to an actual phone. BT cellnet used to do this with their phones which gave free calls to your landline.

It's not that uncommon to see this especially if the sims is older. Best bet is to contact O2 and get them to take the sims restriction off. explain that the phone it's currently in has an intermittent fault and you want to put the sims in a new phone...or do as bbb_uk suggests......whichever you do will still mean you have to ring them

I did think of that but the simcard works in another phone and another o2 simcard works in the phone she has probs with (3510i). That, along with the fact it has just been unlocked from orange.

I was possibly thinking maybe that phone doesn't like that simcard (and vice versa) as either of them in a different phone or with a different simcard have any probs!!?!?

It's unusual and I've never come across it and prob the only answer is to port number.

One other note, I was informed by a friend of mine that you no longer have to ask for PAC code, etc if its staying on the exact same network just ask to transfer the number stating it is staying on the same network/tariff.
