Claiming off a credit card

Hi. Never had to do this before but beginning to think a holiday company I booked with has gone 'iffy'. I paid the deposit a couple of weeks ago on a visa card. I haven't even had the statement yet. The company are not answering the phone or responding to voice mail or email. When should I act and what should I do? How can I check if they are still trading ok? What are my rights to cancel without incurring fees?

Help!! I'm new to the forum but not to MSE!! And I'm a good girl with my money most of the time!! I paid on Visa especially so that I would have some protection (or so I thought - am I wrong?).

Who is the company ? Hard to give any advice about cancelling as the company will have their own t & c's.
  • Don't want to name the company in case they are still ok and just understaffed or some other explanation. So it wouldn't be fair to frighten other potential customers off just yet. Surely if I can't get hold of them after a reasonable amount of time, that would be grounds for cancelling a deposit paid?

If you can't get hold of them, how are you going to cancel ? Your CC company can't cancel it for you.
  • Oh ok! Hadn't thought of it like that. If we assume they have gone bust, how would I go about any of this? Surely I will never be able to get hold of them?

If they've gone bust and you don't get the holiday, your CC will be able to dispute this for you. You'll need proof they've gone bust, you can't just assume.

There's no real problem with naming them on here, you're just asking for advice. Other posters may have more information.
  • Ok. It is floridamasters dot co dot uk They say they are ATOL protected and we have the certificate which came with our holiday invoice.
  • Ok. They've been in touch and will be sorting out my queries. Apparently everything is fine so I'll wait and see. The holiday isn't till next easter so I will monitor review websites this year and check that they are sound with this years bookings. Thanks for your help.
