I buy or sell at ebay as a private individual less and less now, I would imagine the recession has affected everyone in retail and ebay sellers must be getting hit hard with postal prices, and this time next year, RM will not exist any more, as be sold off by then, all industries are suffering, no ones got spare money for luxury items and more people shop at discount pound shops and grocery places like lidl. So yes it is hard, but if you have a family that loves you and are healthy, you really have to be thankful as there are a lot worse things in the world than loss of revenue on ebay!

This all seems quite strange to me, I've been selling privately for about six months now, listing about 6 - 10 items a week. In that time I've only had one item that hasn't sold. My number of watchers varies between 6 and 40 and the prices I'm achieving are fine. I start everything at 99p, occasionally things go for less than I paid for them but generally not. Overall I'm very pleased even after ebay and Paypal fees.

Bearing in mind that what I'm selling I bought retail, not wholesale, I'm surprised if people can't make money on stuff they've bought at a discount.

I agree, You've only got to look at the various 'challenge' threads here on MSE to see that there are a great many truly private sellers funding holidays and lifestyles by decluttering on ebay.

Much easier selling your old stuff though - where every penny is a bonus - and little competition for your older items.

Trying to compete on Ebay selling new stuff, is almost impossible now.

I do very well with my new items, they are my bread and butter goods, but I suppose my competition think it is unfair if I sell and they don't.

Please keep telling everyone that;) The more potential sellers that hear it the better.

Yes, it's really impossible, don't ever try selling fishing tackle, for example. ;)

I'm not exactly funding a lavish lifestyle with the things I've sold on eBay, BUT the money that I've made is very handy. It might not pay for my cruise in September, but it will pay for some nice additions to my holiday wardrobe.

I kick myself for not starting with eBay earlier. When I think of all the things I gave away, or have thrown away, not to mention the things from my parents house that went with a house clearance - if I'd sold all that, I probably would be living the high life on the proceeds !

I have been on the qbid auctions site and it looks easy to use . Great low fees that help you to cut your costs of selling an item
I have signed up to the site and every week more and more items are being listed. Hope it works and obviously the more members that join then the more listings and selling opportunities there will be.
